Background / History

Yu Xiaogang attempted to recruit Lin Xia as a disciple at Notting Academy. He argued that Lin Xia's Rank One Innate Soul Power and detached beast Martial Soul required Yu's guidance, while citing Tang San as an example of a gifted student who had accepted him as master. Lin Xia rejected him, objecting to Yu's assumption that Bulbasaur should absorb beast Soul Rings and correcting Yu's dismissive name for it: “garlic bulb turtle.” 1

Despite rejecting Lin Xia as unsuitable for cultivating into a powerhouse, Yu regarded him as potentially useful experimental material. His rejection of Lin Xia later became a major source of humiliation when Lin became Spirit Hall's Holy Son and a Level 58 Soul King. 1 309

Fall from Grace

Crown Prince Xue Qinghe invited Yu to a private banquet, ostensibly because of admiration for his Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul theory. The recognition reignited Yu's vanity and ambition to influence Heaven Dou's spirit master education. 306

At the banquet, Hu Liena, Yan, and Dugu Bo challenged specific claims in Yu's theories. Yan presented a living counterexample to Yu's assertion that toxic Martial Soul masters could not live past thirty, while Dugu Bo condemned him for harming the prospects of young spirit masters through untested theory. 307 308

Lin Xia then revealed himself as the former Rank One Innate Soul Power child Yu had failed to recruit. Venusaur's Level 58 pressure forced Yu to the floor, while Lin's progression directly contradicted the limits Yu had treated as established fact. 309 310

Yu was stripped of his Spirit Hall Honorary Elder token, which Bibi Dong personally reclaimed and shattered. Bibi Dong publicly exposed him for plagiarizing and altering Spirit Hall research, then accused him of exploiting both her former status as Saintess and Liu Erlong's feelings and family ties for personal advancement. 311 313 314 315

Liu Erlong ended her relationship with Yu after confronting his deception. The banquet attendees threw him out, Qian Renxue expelled him from Heaven Dou Royal Academy, and even Flender later ordered him to leave after bringing him a final meal. 316 318 354

God of Wrath Incident

Broken by disgrace and consumed by resentment, Yu accepted the God of Wrath's offer of power. The god selected him specifically as a vessel because of the intensity of his anger, malice, and desire for revenge. 356 366

Yu manipulated Tang San into giving him Nine-Infant Powder under the pretense of self-defense. He used the ensuing opportunity to kill Flender, whose soul was then devoured as part of Yu's empowerment. 359 363

Bibi Dong attempted to annihilate Yu after discovering Flender's death, but the God of Wrath intervened to save him. Severely injured and increasingly unstable, Yu nevertheless accepted the god's plan to create an obedient army through Spirit Beasts in pursuit of revenge against Bibi Dong, Lin Xia, and Qian Renxue. 368 369 373

Lin Xia later found Yu in a cave, physically degraded and protected by a foul, dark-red divine carapace. Lin ordered an immediate attack, declaring that day to be Yu's death. 386

Appearance

Yu is first depicted in a washed-out gray robe, with a rigid, gloomy face that he tries to compose into the bearing of an unflappable “Master.” 307

His greatest vulnerability is the label of “waste.” Lin Xia's success from Rank One Innate Soul Power, combined with Dugu Bo's public condemnation, shatters Yu's confidence because it disproves the theoretical limits on which he built his identity. 308 309 310
