"According to reports, the Windowless Building, a landmark located in District 7 at the center of Academy City, has suffered an unknown terrorist attack. The structure has been completely destroyed. Fortunately, there were no casualties—truly a blessing amid misfortune. Next, we turn to our reporter on the scene."
Several display screens throughout Academy City continuously reported on the inexplicable disappearance of District 7's landmark building, prompting plenty of discussion among the students.
"Eek, that's terrifying. It was actually attacked by terrorists."
"I think that giant strange bird from last night did it."
"What strange bird?"
"You didn't know? There are tons of videos online."
"Good thing it happened at night. Otherwise, who knows how many people would've been hurt."
At a certain hospital, Gekota Doctor Heaven Canceller, who was making his rounds, looked at the empty private ward with its window wide open. Clutching his head, he sighed helplessly. "Looks like we had a patient who couldn't sit still. Honestly, surviving injuries that fatal is already a miracle. Couldn't he just stay put and recuperate quietly?"
The person being grumbled about let out a huge sneeze. Wrapped head to toe in bandages and looking every bit like a mummy, he supported himself with medical crutches as he walked alone down the street, ignoring the surprised and even frightened looks around him.
It was no wonder people were stunned. Anyone would be shocked to see a severely disabled patient, covered in bandages with his right arm and left foot missing, swaggering down the street. On top of that, he was still wearing a hospital gown. Quite a few people had already started contacting Judgment.
Arriving at a park, Rod casually tossed aside his crutches and sat down, staring at his remaining left arm as he complained speechlessly, "That was absurdly strong. So this is the strongest combat power of the Old Testament? That unknown force even suppressed my cursed energy, leaving me unable to use the Reverse Cursed Technique to heal myself."
"Well, I should be almost adapted by now." As he spoke, Rod looked upward. A strange Dharma wheel, difficult for ordinary people to perceive, floated above his head.
It was Mahoraga's wheel. It was attempting to adapt to the unknown energy within his body, and after roughly a night of work, Mahoraga's analysis was nearing completion.
But it wasn't all loss.
Looking at the panel that appeared before him, Rod rarely showed a smile.
Infinite Transcendence System Host: Rod Gender: Male Age: 23 Race: Human Constitution: 634 [The average adult human male is 1] Strength: 632 Agility: 624 Spirit: 765 Talent: Infinite Transcendence (There are no longer any so-called bottlenecks. Transcend without limit and continuously surpass your own limits. Theoretically, there is no upper limit.) Max-Level Sukuna Panel (100%) Abilities: Cursed Technique: Dismantle, Cursed Technique: Cleave, Reverse Cursed Technique, Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine, Flame Technique: Open, Blood Manipulation, Ten Shadows Technique, World-Cutting Slash, Ryomen Sukuna's True Form Weapons: Cursed Tool: Kamutoke, Cursed Tool: Hiten Items: None
He finally understood just how monstrously overpowered Infinite Transcendence was as a talent. In a battle against an extreme crisis, this kind of growth was like riding a rocket—no bottlenecks, constant improvement. If he went through this a few more times, splitting a planet with a flick of his finger might not be out of the question.
But on second thought, he should forget about provoking that foul-mouthed angel again. That guy had definitely held back. Otherwise, not even ashes of him would have remained. Fortunately, that angel had a bit of a prankster streak and allowed him, this variable, to remain on Aleister's chessboard.
Otherwise, even if he had not died, he would have ended up owing a considerable debt. Activating the system's backup protection system required quite a hefty cost, and unless it was absolutely necessary, he really did not want to try it.
"Um, sir, do you need me to call an ambulance for you?" A timid girl's voice suddenly came from beside him, making Rod look over instinctively.
He saw two girls. One had short black hair and light brown eyes. Though her eyebrows were rather thick, the flower accessory on her head was her most distinctive feature. She had a petite build and wore a distinctive school uniform, with a red neckerchief matching the uniform tied at her chest.
The other girl wore a familiar uniform—the girls' uniform of Tokiwadai Academy—and had twin tails tied with bows.
They were the other two members of the Railgun quartet: the Judgment duo, Uiharu Kazari, known as the Constant Temperature Reaper, and Shirai Kuroko, known as the Railgun's Mount.
"Mm, no need. I'm just resting here. Don't mind me." Rod casually waved them off, signaling that they need not concern themselves with him. Right now, he only wanted to wait for Mahoraga to finish its analysis, use the Reverse Cursed Technique to recover from his injuries, and then go check out the free residence Aleister had assigned him.
"Um, I think that with your condition, sir, you should still go to the hospital." Uiharu Kazari's face was filled with concern. To outsiders, Rod's current state looked no different from having one foot in the grave. If they left him out here, he might just die on the street.
And as a diligent Judgment member, what she needed to do now was safely escort him to the hospital and save his life.
"Please cooperate with our work, sir." Shirai Kuroko's distinctive voice made Rod glance at her a few more times. Honestly, the recognition factor of Shirai Kuroko's voice actress was pretty strong. Beatrice from Re:Zero and White Yaksha from Problem Children were both characters with that same "hentai" quality.
"What kind of rude look is that?" Shirai Kuroko noticed something off about Rod's gaze. She raised her delicate eyebrows and shot him an annoyed glare.
"No, it's nothing." Ignoring the girl's glare, Rod noticed Mahoraga's wheel turning. After nearly twelve hours, the analysis had finally been completed. As the wheel rotated, the unknown energy's influence on Rod's body was removed.
Rod stood up. His bandages burst apart, and bones began growing from the missing parts of his body. Then, visible to the naked eye, flesh buds spread outward. Before the two girls' dumbfounded eyes, Rod used the Reverse Cursed Technique to regenerate his limbs. Swinging his brand-new right arm and planting his left foot firmly on the ground, he began loosening up.
Accompanied by a series of cracking bones, Rod stretched lazily and said to the two girls whose jaws had nearly hit the floor, "See? I told you I was fine."
"..." After a moment of silence, the two girls exchanged glances and smiled wryly in unison.
"Is this gentleman's esper ability limb regeneration?"
"No, my ability is called Reverse Cursed Technique. It can be used not only on myself, but also to treat others. If your arms or legs get cut off, as long as you're still alive, I can still treat you."
"..." Shirai Kuroko's face darkened. She had the distinct feeling this guy was cursing her.
