Background

Rod was a 23-year-old man from another world whose parents and younger sister remained alive when he died in a car accident. Although he had imagined transmigration through the fiction he read, he struggled with the sudden separation from his family and resolved to seek a way home. 1

He awoke in an Academy City alley within the world of A Certain Magical Index and received the Infinite Transcendence System. Its basic functions included quests, item storage, and exchange across worlds; its defining talent, Infinite Transcendence, removes conventional growth bottlenecks and theoretically gives him no upper limit. 1

His beginner gift was a max-level Sukuna template. Rod immediately fused with it, gaining Sukuna’s physical capabilities, techniques, combat knowledge, cursed tools, and markings across his body. 1 2

After obtaining the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, Rod successfully used his World Slash to leave the A Certain Magical Index world, while leaving the Tablet of Destiny behind as a coordinate for his return. His travels subsequently took him through numerous worlds, where he accumulated further power, followers, and divine authority. 82 83 134 145

Appearance

Rod is a young adult man with stubble on his chin, scarlet eyes after fusing with the Sukuna template, and ring-shaped markings spread across his body. 1 3

  • Ring-shaped markings extend from his head and face across his torso, shoulders, back, abdomen, and wrists. 1
  • His awakened gaze gives off a bloodthirsty, savage aura. 1
  • He later retains a diagonal scar from his left shoulder to his right abdomen as recognition of Kanzaki Kaori’s strength. 49 50
  • When drawing on Sukuna’s power or entering combat seriously, his markings emerge and his scarlet eyes become filled with killing intent and destructive desire. 234
  • Rod can assume a dragon form through the Azi Dahaka template, while Azi Dahaka can also manifest as an external three-headed dragon incarnation. 135 333

Personality

Rod is pragmatic, adaptable, and strongly motivated by his goal of returning to his original world and family. He does not allow his initial fear of the setting’s dangers to stop him from acting, instead prioritizing information, strength, and opportunities to advance. 1 2 10 17

He openly calls himself selfish, explaining that he acts primarily to satisfy himself rather than to gain approval. This indifference can make him ruthless: he maims or terrifies enemies without remorse, kills Kaiho Noriyasu, and uses the souls of Level Upper users in his plans. 3 26 28 40

Despite this, Rod is not indiscriminately cruel. He lets frightened delinquents leave alive, treats Uiharu and Shirai to desserts, heals injured civilians and Judgment officers, saves Accelerator after defeating her, and restores Kanzaki after their battle. 2 8 15 26 50

Rod enjoys fighting exceptional opponents and becomes visibly exhilarated by pain, danger, and a worthy clash. He respects strength and resolve, as shown by his sparing Accelerator for awakening Black Wings and preserving Kanzaki’s scar-worthy strike. 13 14 47 48 49 50

Although he is capable of catastrophic destruction, Rod rejects Altair’s proposal to destroy a world of nearly ten billion people, citing the karmic burden and the lives that would be lost. He later restores the devastated world of Disboard after defeating Artosh and grants the Glamoth Iron Cavalry new lives free of Entropy Loss Syndrome. 85 134 135

Rod is also an enthusiastic consumer of anime, games, and related merchandise. He freely spends his wealth on mobile games, figures, and other otaku interests, while his broad knowledge of fiction frequently informs his decisions in other worlds. 1 87

Abilities & Skills

Infinite Transcendence

A system-granted talent that allows Rod to continuously surpass his limits without conventional bottlenecks. 1

  • Enables limitless theoretical growth in physical attributes. 1 18
  • His attributes rose from ordinary-human levels to over 2,000 through battle and training. 1 6 18
  • After absorbing Gabriel’s power and later fusing with Azi Dahaka, his attributes reached the several-thousand and then twelve-thousand range. 82 134
  • Does not automatically grant conceptual understanding; Rod must develop that through his own insight. 18

Sukuna Template

  • Dismantle — invisible slashes capable of cutting attacks, buildings, and opponents. 1 13 46

A regenerative technique that repairs Rod’s body and can heal others. 2 6

  • Regenerated Rod’s missing limbs after Mahoraga adapted to the energy suppressing his cursed energy. 6
  • Can treat others so long as they remain alive, including restoring lost limbs. 6 26
  • Healed Accelerator after defeating her. 15
  • Restored Kanzaki Kaori’s fatal injuries following their final clash. 50
  • Cannot function while hostile energy suppresses Rod’s cursed energy. 6
  • Later healed injured people across multiple worlds and cured the Glamoth Iron Cavalry of Entropy Loss Syndrome. 135 136

Blood Manipulation

Rod can manipulate blood, including blood within another person’s body. 2 3

  • Controlled the delinquent Xiang’s body and forced him to attack his companions. 3
  • Made a victim perform movements beyond normal human capability, injuring other delinquents. 3
  • Rod speculates that studying the technique may let him develop further liquid-manipulation applications. 3

Ten Shadows Technique

A shikigami-based technique inherited through the Sukuna template. 2

  • Nue — carried Rod and Misaka Mikoto through the air. 5
  • Mahoraga — adapts to phenomena and hostile energies over time. 6 40

Mystic Eyes of Death Perception

Rod acquired the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception after killing Archangel Gabriel and absorbing her angelic power. 82

  • Allows Rod to perceive death and causality. 82
  • Enables him to develop Concept Slashes capable of targeting conceptual existences. 82 127
  • Rod believes the eyes could allow him to erase Gabriel from mythology at its root and kill opponents on the level of Magic Gods. 82
  • Reverse Cursed Technique and Kazakiri Hyouka’s computational core substantially mitigate the strain normally associated with the eyes. 82
