Ever since one of his horns had been severed by a torrent of swordsmanship outside the Marine base in the New World, "Hundred Beasts" Kaido had been living in extreme frustration.
The notorious pirate had spent nearly every day drinking aboard his island-sized warship. He had even lost much of his former enthusiasm for recruiting Zoan Devil Fruit users as subordinates.
"Boss! Boss Kaido! Something terrible has happened!"
That day, Kaido was once again lounging bare-chested in his great hall, silently entertaining himself as usual. The lackeys who normally dared not show themselves for fear of angering their captain finally crowded outside his door.
Too afraid to enter, they could only jump anxiously and shout through the enormous door.
"You're too noisy."
Disturbed, Kaido's expression darkened, and thick killing intent surfaced in his amber vertical pupils.

Only after a full five minutes did another voice sound from outside.
The speaker was a burly, scar-faced man.
Though he looked exceptionally rough and uncouth, his eyes gleamed with shrewdness. Clearly, he was far more calculating than his appearance suggested.

Kaido knew the newcomer. He was one of the subordinates Kaido had personally recruited.
Fuko, the "Red Fox" Devil Fruit user and steward of his ship.
Though not one of the Three Calamities, he was greatly trusted by Kaido himself.
