Two months later.
Crack, crack... boom, boom!
On the vibrant grassland, Tempest Kicks launched from Reg's feet glimmered with a captivating halo beneath the sunlight... deadly yet beautiful, they sliced thick tree trunks in half, either horizontally or cleanly through the middle.
When Reg first began practicing Tempest Kick two months ago... he could only stir up a biting gust.
As his training sessions increased, his Tempest Kicks gradually gained shape and trajectories, becoming faster, thinner, and sharper than ever!
That was the power of the Six Powers... even the powerful beasts of the forest would flee madly before such devastating slashes.
Their proudly formidable defenses simply could not withstand these highly compressed cutting waves.
"Whew, whew... Teacher Colin, can we begin training Moon Walk now?"
Dressed in nothing but a pair of black shorts, Reg was drenched in sweat... compared to the ease of Paper Art and Shave, Tempest Kick, with its long-range offensive capability, was considerably more difficult.
Two months of frenzied kicking had sent Reg's appetite soaring, and he ate more and more each day.
If he could not control his body to rapidly digest food and convert it into energy... he would probably have to rest for two days after training for one, greatly reducing his efficiency.
"You can... You really are crazy, kid. Eat something first." Colin handed over a roasted wild boar leg.
"Mmph... thank you, Teacher."
Reg took the fragrant leg and tore into it with huge bites... Mm, the skin was as crisp and delicious as ever, while the meat inside was tender and silky, melting in his mouth and making it impossible to stop.
Colin could only smile helplessly as he watched Reg devour it... those wide, round eyes, that slightly babyish face trembling exaggeratedly as he swallowed—there were only two words to describe it: pure bliss.
His appetite stirred, Colin soon joined Reg... a wild boar nearly four meters long was completely devoured within just a few minutes.
More than ten minutes later, once he had mostly digested the food, Colin stood up. "Rested enough?"
"Yeah."
"Good... let's go."
Reg rose and looked toward the southern sky. There lay the only mountain range on the island.
What Reg needed to do next was... bungee jump from cliffs of varying heights, without any safety measures whatsoever.
With his current physical condition, as long as he did not fall straight down... dying would be difficult.
After all, both Paper Art and Tempest Kick could make brief use of air currents.
There was still some danger, but this was the fastest way to learn Moon Walk: only when humans faced danger could their physical potential be stimulated to the fullest... that was an ironclad fact.
Day 1, crash!
Reg, who had fallen from high above, hung from a tree branch... not only was he filthy and disheveled, but his clothes had been shredded by branches during the fall, even exposing half his butt.
But Reg was not worried. No outsiders could see him here... high-altitude bungee jumping was incredibly exhilarating. As his body became completely enveloped by the air, it instinctively tensed up, while his blood flow and heartbeat both sped up dramatically.
This was a thrill he had never experienced at amusement parks in his previous life... compared to this, those heights were child's play.
"Again!"
Reg jumped down from the branch and used Shave to race toward the cliff at the mountaintop... this way, he could use Shave to step through the air when jumping off, and use Shave again on the way down. Neither would interfere with the other.
Day 10, still crash!
Only, Reg remained in the air for a few seconds longer, and could even control the direction of his descent.
Reg jumped down from the thick vines and relentlessly ran toward the mountain peak again.
Day 20, still crash!
Day 50, the crashing sounds of his fall disappeared... replaced by dull, repeated thump thump thump sounds. He could now achieve basic levitation.
Day 80, Reg climbed onto a cliff nearly a thousand meters high... He took the chunk of meat Colin offered and stuffed it into his mouth. "Teacher Colin, I'm going."
"Mm, be careful... don't die." Colin gave him a serious warning... over these past eighty days, he had carefully selected suitable heights for Reg step by step, while also serving as his cook.
After all, when jumping from such heights, Reg had to constantly use Shave to slow his descent... the stamina expenditure was astonishing.
Basically, after three jumps, he had to eat an animal such as a deer.
"Mmph... okay."
After wolfing down the food, Reg casually tossed aside the bone and glanced at the clouds shrouding the cliff's edge.
"Whew..."
After taking a deep breath, Reg closed his eyes and spread his arms... then leapt forward with all his might, soaring into the air.
That posture was exactly like the one he had yearned for in his previous life: a Leap of Faith!
900 meters... 800 meters... 700 meters... 600 meters... 500 meters... 400 meters... 300 meters... Thump!
One thousand times... or five thousand times?
Reg had long lost count of how many times he had jumped off cliffs, but he silently calculated the height in his mind.
When he estimated that he had reached 300 meters, Reg first used Paper Art to adjust himself so that his head faced upward. Then, both feet began stomping through the air at once... whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
Countless afterimages converged in an instant. Reg, transformed into a speed demon, began making up for his "slackness" over the previous seven hundred-plus meters... yet his body was still falling, only the speed of his descent had slowed somewhat.
200 meters... 100 meters... 50 meters. Only when he was barely nearing the tops of the towering trees did Reg, frantically kicking at the air, gradually steady his body:
Moon Walk mastered! Annual goal achieved!!
"HAHAHA..."
Laughing loudly, Reg trod on the Moon Walk as circles of invisible gusts spread beneath his feet... this was the sky humanity yearned for!
At that moment, Reg's emotions surged with excitement... at last, through his own efforts, he had "stood" in the sky!
Although the soles of his feet were aching from stomping, and the strength in his entire body was draining away like a rushing river, Reg stubbornly remained in the air... the immense sense of accomplishment was nearly enough to drown him.
He was afraid that if he returned to the ground now, he would suffer an uncontrollable eighth-grader syndrome outburst... that would be far too embarrassing.
Thump, thump, thump... Reg gradually began descending as he continuously kicked through the air. In the distance, Colin, carrying a Kuma over his shoulder, approached him as well.
Reg could clearly see... the joy and admiration on Colin's face.
After all, how many people could go from being an orphan with no one to rely on to surpassing the limits of humanity through their own efforts in just six years?
Reg, who had only turned eight a few days ago, now qualified to officially join P9... though that was nothing remarkable in Tower Forest Island's several-hundred-year history.
But the descendants of those P Organization members had begun training when they were only a few months old... Reg had started two whole years later than all of them!
"Hard work never betrays a determined man... wonderful!"
Thud... Reg landed on the ground and collapsed onto the soft grass.
His face was flushed red, his heart still pounding violently, and the blood in his body still surged without rest.
"Yo... kid, it's still too early to relax. Don't you want to learn the other two forms?" Colin came before Reg, set Kuma down, and began dealing with him.
Reg merely covered his face... the time for farewell had finally arrived.
Though his desire to leave this island immediately was overwhelming... he still had to say goodbye properly.
Having mastered the four forms, Reg no longer needed to use any other method to leave Tower Forest Island... he only needed to apply to become an official P9 member, and an assessment would be sent down from above.
He only needed to... "die" during the assessment, and he would be able to temporarily escape the organization's control, gaining precious time to travel to Sky Island.
