Chapter 56: Targeting Carmen
Dole did not even count them before accepting the gold coins.
He looked at Lily, gaining a measure of understanding of the girl. Though they had only gone through one mission together, they had worked well together and built a foundation of trust.
Lily looked at Dole and took out another two gold coins. "I want mental power potions." Though she phrased it as a question, her tone was certain.
Dole did not know why Lily knew he could brew mental power potions, and he looked at her.
"Why would you say that?"
Lily bit her lip and said, "I wasn't sure at first, but once you said that, I believed it."
Dole fell silent. This big sister knew how to bluff people, too.
After thinking it over, he took out a bottle of mental power potion. "Sure, but mental power potions are the only kind I can brew. I can't make anything else—I don't have the ingredients."
In a roundabout way, he admitted that he knew potion-making. That, too, was a foundation for trust.
Seeing the mental power potion in Dole's hand, Lily excitedly took it. She had cultivated for several years, and now that she had finally seen a potion, advancement to a high-level wizard apprentice was within reach.
Her excited voice even turned hoarse. "I can provide the herbs, but I need you to brew them for me. I only need one-third of the finished product."
Dole's eyes lit up. "You can get the herbs?"
Lily sighed. "I can. I work as a maid for a noble family. They deal in medicinal materials, so I can usually get in touch with herb merchants."
Dole was full of question marks. Then, both certain and puzzled, he asked, "You work for the Lake Family?"
