Unica tidied herself up and came beneath the Elf Tree.
"I wish to see the clan chief. The antidote for the demon seeds has been found."
The guard was somewhat stunned. So quickly? She nodded and said, "Unica, you've done well. It seems the human you partnered with is reliable after all."
She immediately turned and went to report upward.
Unica also breathed a sigh of relief. After working with Karl's Blazing Flame Caravan for so long, this was the first time she had felt gratified.
Humans were cunning, fond of splitting hairs and taking petty advantages. They had taken plenty of advantage of them before, but now they had finally done something decent.
She had also handled the previous trade for branches from the Tree of Life with Karl, and the clan chief had reprimanded her for it for quite a while. This time, though, she had finally won back a little ground.
Very soon, Unica was granted permission.
The Elf Tree was enormous—so enormous that it resembled a small mountain. One had to climb up along it. The roots below were gnarled and tangled, each four or five meters wide; walking upon them was as easy as walking on level ground.
The trunk of the Elf Tree rose high into the sky, and its canopy covered the heavens for several kilometers around. The upper ranks of the Elf Race resided there.
Here, one could sense an exceedingly rich essence of life and laws of life. Even doing nothing but standing here could fill one's heart with joy and a fervent passion for life.
This was the Elf Tree, also known as the Tree of Life.
She soon reached the upper level, but she did not see the clan chief. Instead, she saw the aged and elderly High Priest.
