One more person hardly seemed to make a difference in the spacious, peculiar laboratory. Despite its apparently simple layout, it was extraordinarily complex. Countless small laboratories lay hidden overhead, underfoot, or even just off to the side, where the old wizard could vanish with a turn of his body. One example was the pitch-black space Ruger had entered last time, reserved for that pitch-black substance with its special environmental requirements.
What looked like a spacious, level, unremarkable laboratory actually extended above, below, and to either side, with some areas even overlapping in unusual ways. Its multiple dimensions made it far larger than he had imagined, giving the busy old wizard ample room to move about.
Without an assistant, the old wizard handled everything himself. With one, no matter what sort of fellow they were, he could always find suitable work for them. This was one of the reasons Ruger felt so certain about the laboratory's vast size and intricate structure. If countless tasks were not underway at once, how could there be such a seemingly endless supply of suitable work?
He was a Three-Ring Wizard, while the other fellow was a High-Rank Wizard, meaning he was at least at the fourth ring. Yet there still seemed to be plenty of work waiting for them.
Ruger believed that even if a Wizard Apprentice happened to pass by, the old wizard could probably find something for them to do.
Of course, an apprentice would surely be delighted. After all, Ruger had been happy just to learn how to brew the most basic Purification Potion at the Old Lunse Potion Shop.
Right now, Ruger was also giving it his all.
According to his plan, he would adapt to the work at hand as quickly as possible, then use whatever attention he could spare
