A petite figure blocked his path. She seemed to have keenly seen through the route he had in mind.
His plan to play hide-and-seek with her around the powerful Old Wizard conducting his experiment seemed no longer viable.
"Sir, did you see that just now?" the petite figure asked, floating before him.
"Of course."
Ruger raised an eyebrow and replied in an odd tone.
"That makes things much less interesting. It seems you've already guessed the answer. We agreed that you would open that door yourself, but this also proves that I keep my promises. That was a door with no danger behind it..." she said calmly.
A golden, tiered alchemical apparatus floated past them.
"Of course. I think you may keep your promises even more faithfully than you realize. Perhaps you opened that door because you accidentally got the door number wrong. You never once intended to rob me of the joy of exploration. That door was always meant for me... This was all just a lovely misunderstanding..." Ruger teased, the odd inflection in his voice much less pronounced.
