Did people move faster when they were angry?
Ruger tilted his head. He had known this Mushroom Forest was enormous, but from the way Lawrence and the Dragonkin Girl Yige had described it, it had not seemed quite this vast.
Those two had been consumed by anger, one chasing and the other fleeing. Lawrence had even slowed down from time to time to tease the Dragonkin Girl, hoping that a prolonged chase and the passage of time would calm this Dragonkin who had raised her axe against a friend. Of course, Ruger thought that teasing and toying with her might have had the opposite effect, making her axe all the sharper.
By those two's estimates, they had taken somewhere between ten and twenty days to cross this enormous Mushroom Forest.
Ruger had originally calculated that, if his group focused on traveling, they might make it out in fewer than ten days.
Now, however, he felt they might only just have reached the depths of the Mushroom Forest.
And this was already the eighth day that the three of them and their beast had spent racing through it.
Neither the two Wizards nor Zhizhi had the constitution of an ordinary creature. Over those eight days, they had stopped to rest only three times, and those stops had also included Mona collecting a Magic Plant that interested her and Ruger catching an insect. As for the tiny woman, she could retreat into the coarse cloth pouch for a nap whenever she pleased. Whether they stopped made no difference to her rest.
The increasingly varied mushrooms and Insect Beasts around them showed no sign that they were approaching the edge of the Mushroom Forest.
