Deep Valley and Exploration

Though Zhizhi was nowhere near as massive as that giant snake from before, it was broad enough. The only flaw was that its shell was somewhat smooth, but that was no great problem for Ruger and Layden.

After spotting their destination, it took them quite a while to finally reach it. Zhizhi's twelve pairs of short little legs churned in rotation, making a swishing sound.

Only after entering the valley did it slow down under Ruger's soothing. The long run seemed to have left it, only a few days awake from sleep, thoroughly exhilarated.

Layden and the original camp members had visited this deep valley once before. It was considered one of the main areas to explore in this direction. The Nightmare World was both real and illusory, and sometimes it simply did not follow reason. For instance, one might find a mountain stream and trace it upstream for days, only for the water to vanish. One moment it made sense, the next it was utterly inexplicable. Sometimes the inexplicable had to be used to explain the reasonable; other times, the reasonable had to be used to regard the inexplicable.

The clever bug Zhizhi slowed down, but its body began swaying more dramatically. Like rolling waves, it twisted as it strolled through the valley, heading deeper inside.

Sitting on its back, Ruger surveyed the scenery on both sides. There was far more vegetation here than he had imagined; it was a completely different sight from outside the valley.

Layden, like him, was also looking around.

"That thing from that day..." Ruger looked at the lush surroundings. When he noticed a small tree hollow in particular, he could not help recalling that day. "A nightmare demon—you called it that, if I remember correctly. What exactly is that sort of thing?"
