If a Wizard Apprentice finally underwent her transformation after years of preparation and became a Formal Wizard, her power would grow, her horizons would broaden, and she could witness and participate in fields she had never encountered before. Even the lifespan she had already spent more than half of would be extended. Yet if, in the face of all this, the woman who could no longer be called a Wizard Apprentice still wore a gloomy expression, then something indescribably wrong must have happened, something that caused her tremendous pain.
Ruger twitched his ears and watched the old woman laughing wildly. The answer was already plain.
At the same time, he relaxed a little. This meant the old woman's astonishing endeavor had already made some promising progress.
Had the withered-haired man in yellow contributed to this? Ruger wondered.
Judging by his subdued, respectful demeanor, he probably had something to do with it.
Ruger pursed his lips.
Still, everything had two sides. At least Mewtris was alive, and she had even become a Wizard. In Ruger's original estimation, she might have died after some time, killed by the old woman. Perhaps the withered-haired man in yellow also deserved some credit for her survival.

The old woman suddenly yanked with both hands, dragging a shrieking monstrosity with eyes growing on its eyes out of thin air.
Smack! She clapped her palms together!
When she opened them again, a perfectly round eyeball lay in her palm.
A small puddle of water surrounded the eyeball. The old woman tossed it lightly, and even when the little eyeball left her hand, the water remained wrapped around it. It looked exceptionally bizarre.
Gurgle! The eyeball rolled, seemingly still trying to look at Layden and Ruger.
Smiling, the old woman put the little eyeball away.
