Chapter 265: Bitter Tea and Inversion
Ruger took several more books from the shelves in succession, but in the end, his hands came to a stop.
The two gathered together.
"If we remain unable to leave this place, I think we should study this thing first," Ruger said, taking the notebook the old woman had thrown to him from his storage pouch. "At the very least, we need to understand it, in case she suddenly calls for us."
Hearing that, Layden took out the notebook he had received as well.
The two sat beneath the bookshelves and began reading.
The first part of Ruger's notebook contained some of the old woman's ramblings. Ruger read through them patiently. He had always believed that the old woman was not truly a nagging sort of person. Just like the muttered monologue she had carried on behind that stone door, this notebook had likely been written while she was in a near-unconscious state. The so-called ramblings were merely incomplete fragments of her jumping thoughts, laying out some of the old woman's ideas and organizing her own designs.
Naturally, it mostly concerned matters related to Ruger—things he needed to try and understand through the experiment.
When they moved on to the next step, the old woman would alter the nature of their nightmare organs. On that foundation were the path borrowed from nightmare Wizards, the nightmare organs developed by the Supreme Council to help people explore and merge with this world, the Ascension Ritual she had modified by borrowing from them, and auxiliary spells such as the Lucid Dream Simulation Spell. Those were only the things Ruger could know about. For instance, the things they had been busy with in the mountains before were not mentioned here, and that wrinkled little figure was still working
