Chapter 442: Evil and Smell

The approaching apprentice halted and turned to look at the two wizards accompanying him.

Ruger was smiling as well, watching them. Before he had even finished speaking, the old man opposite him frowned, putting on a ferocious look that made Ruger want to walk over and slap him twice. The old man's eyebrows looked like two thick clumps of weeds; when he frowned, they made him seem even more like a blazing furnace of rage, someone not to be provoked.

The middle-aged man did not respond at once, seeming to wait for the old man beside him to speak. Yet after two or three breaths, the old man remained silent.

The middle-aged-looking wizard spoke again.

"I'm afraid that won't do. We must take her away now," the middle-aged wizard said sincerely.

Ruger raised a brow slightly. This was somewhat beyond his expectations.

Were they simply overbearing and rude? Or was there some other hidden reason?

Perhaps they had not told the truth and were not Varin's family at all. Or perhaps they had not entirely lied, but once Varin woke up, she would refuse to leave with them.

Anything out of the ordinary had a reason behind it.

But those were not matters Ruger intended to investigate, nor did he care much about them.

He simply could not allow the unconscious Varin to be inexplicably taken away from his side by a group of people who had appeared out of nowhere.

Though he and Varin were not particularly familiar with each other, he could not tolerate such a thing happening right before him. Since they had gone out together to deal with a demon-hunting incident, there still had to be a basic bottom line.
