Creak!
The outline of a door appeared beside Ruger's bed. Once it became a little clearer, it slowly opened a crack.
Ruger jolted awake. Just as he was about to instinctively disperse the spell in his hand, he suddenly realized what was happening and raised his hand, aiming the Ash Bullet at the door that had inexplicably appeared in the room.
The person behind the door seemed hesitant as well. After pushing it open a crack, they paused for quite a while before moving again and slowly widening the opening. Though the person was still unseen, the image of someone furtive and sneaky had already formed in Ruger's mind.
Ruger relaxed instead. Someone acting so sneakily could not possibly be all that powerful.
Ruger's first thought was of the Island beneath his feet, of Lord Kurt. Perhaps one of Lord Kurt's enemies wanted to seize this Island through some special means. But then he dismissed that terrible, feather-brained idea. What was there to covet about a remote Island within the range of Light-Loss? Only to Kurt, who had painstakingly built it up, did it possess such immense value—after all, everyone here was his believer.
Ruger's mouth fell slightly open.
Once the initial panic passed, he suddenly realized that the door looked familiar—the mismatched hues of its panels, that beautiful brass-colored pull ring.
A pair of long ears poked out from behind the door, then immediately withdrew. The person behind it seemed to have grabbed hold of their ears. This time, a furry forehead appeared first, followed by a pair of round eyes darting wildly about.
"My friend, is that you? Ruger, my furry friend, my friend with the long, big mouth!" A somewhat excited voice came from behind the door.
Ruger smiled. He had smiled the moment those ears poked
