Clack-clack-clack!
Monster Wolf opened and closed his long jaws, which were no longer quite so bare, making that familiar sound. His teeth, a little sharper than before, knocked together as though he were eager to bite-or eager to play.
Threads of blood-red appeared and vanished within the crimson mist. The mist was spreading, yet it also resembled a spiderweb woven and unfurled in some peculiar way.
Clack-clack-clack!
Monster Wolf tumbled through the air. The blood-red threads had slowed him the instant they appeared, but slowing him was all they had managed.
Ruger had hurled his precious Monster Wolf with all his strength, and Monster Wolf still passed through the crimson mist. Although Ruger had not lifted the Hourglass of Impermanence's suppression of his Dragonkin bloodline, his strength in demon form alone was considerable. That vexing journey through the Abyss had taken a long time, but it had also brought an all-around transformation to his demon form-or rather, growth.
Ruger's demonic face wore a savage grin. His throw had also vented some of his feelings: his Monster Wolf was not ugly.
Once I catch this cultured-looking bastard with the vicious mouth, I'll make Monster Wolf drag him around beside that bald fellow for a few extra laps.
Both Bearers were retreating, putting distance between themselves and Monster Wolf. They probably knew some of his abilities before arriving. Perhaps the bald man's companion from last time had sold these two information about the bald man and Monster Wolf.
To Ruger, they looked like a group from the same organization, pursuing the same goal, yet quietly vying and competing with one another.
As the male Bearer continued retreating, copious crimson mist still poured from the exposed bone on the face of the rotting Burden Object behind him.
