As the minutes and seconds passed, Little Fairy showed no sign of anything unusual.

Whether she could trace and construct the meditation runes, or even complete the first stage of the Eye of the Mind Meditation Method and stabilize it to become a wizard apprentice of the lowest level, remained unknown.
Long-lived races also generally shared one trait: they progressed slowly, as though certain unknown things were bound to their long lives. Some claimed that, with so much time available, they lacked humans' sense of urgency and therefore progressed slowly, but that was nonsense. Fairies were an even more complicated case. They were far too unusual.
Ruger glanced at Little Fairy, who was immersed in meditation, then looked toward Serious Mouse's apron pocket.
Besides the constantly revised and refined menu, he caught sight of the corner of a book, something about a half-knight and the Inn's mysterious back door.

Ruger asked the question out of nowhere.
Serious Mouse merely shook his head.
Ruger smiled and continued drinking. Though he had known the answer before opening his mouth, he still could not resist asking.
The fellow simply seemed to have no interest whatsoever, and could not even be bothered to give it the briefest try.
Ruger slowly finished off a large mug of Sour Mushroom Wine.
