In that instant, Ruger suspected he had fallen under some kind of illusion spell.

His first suspects were the young Wizard and his companions. Although he had watched them leave, anything was possible. He might well have entered an illusion the moment he opened the door, or the moment he explicitly said he had no special information.

He had always been supremely confident, and he had remained alert ever since the Stone Door opened, without detecting even the faintest fluctuation of magic. Still, he could not underestimate others. Besides spells, this world held all manner of peculiar things: special substances, magical or alchemical creations, and even oddities of this sort.

Wizards were plentiful and oddities rare, but there were always a few lucky souls.

His body began to change as well.

"Next, you're going to take out that marvelous book, aren't you? The very heavy one." The smile on the woman's face remained unchanged as she suddenly spoke.

Ruger's hand sank under a weight as he took out the Weighty Book at that very moment. His heart sank along with it.

His movements inevitably froze for a moment. He had already planned to take out the Demon Dice, but now he no longer dared act rashly.

And despite his Foul-Smelling Skin, she remained utterly unfazed, seemingly without any ill intent at all.

Could we talk this out?

He still cautiously began firing the Grey Bullet Spell in every direction. Ash Bullets burst from his fingertips one after another, and his feet began to move as he made sure not to miss a single corner of the room.

Being able to talk was naturally a good thing, but he still feared he was trapped in an illusion while those fellows hid in some corner, enjoying the show.
