Si's vigilance was meaningless, because even if it said so, it could not solve the fundamental problem.
Trust was the bond that held the Successors together. Unreserved trust made the species into a whole, allowing individuals to cooperate seamlessly with one another.
But immense distances created barriers to trust. The Successors had no way to verify the condition of an information source, especially now that the maximum speed of information transmission had fallen to the speed of light. Messenger organisms could not transmit information faster than light, giving the enemy room to maneuver.
The Correction Agency had turned trust into poison, then fed it to the Successors.
No elaborate, earth-shattering conspiracy was needed. They only had to spread false information that was difficult to expose, disrupting Amoeba's information network. Once Successor clusters no longer trusted one another and could no longer maintain close cooperation, Amoeba as a whole would begin to fracture.
Fracture meant easy manipulation. Through information deception, the Correction Agency could alter the overall course of the Successors, or use a series of misdirections to make Successor clusters slaughter one another.
Of course, the most efficient method was to exploit the Successors' unreserved trust in their own kind, lure them into gathering densely together, and then wipe them out in one strike.
This was not difficult. For example, they could release a distress signal from Amoeba's Supreme Will or from some cluster out of a region filled with negative matter, claiming to be trapped in an enemy-laid snare and to have obtained a key item capable of restraining the Correction Agency.
Would any Successor cluster choose not to provide rescue? Obviously not.
Then, because the message did not mention that the region was saturated with negative mass, they would plunge straight in. Positive and negative mass would annihilate
