Background / History

Wei Zhaoting was Su Chenlu's fiancé and a martial artist who resented Wei Xuanfeng's direct-entry token for the Demon Suppression Directorate. Having relied on Su Chenlu to obtain money for his apprenticeship, medicinal herbs, and clothing, he nevertheless treated Wei Xuanfeng with contempt and demanded the token for himself. 2 3

When Wei Xuanfeng refused, Wei Zhaoting attacked him and was decisively beaten twice. Seeing Su Chenlu emerge from Wei Xuanfeng's home, he realized she had been with his rival and attacked again in rage, suffering severe injuries that left him hospitalized. 2 3

At the clinic, Su Chenlu explained that she had sought Wei Xuanfeng's help for Wei Zhaoting's sake. Wei Zhaoting responded with accusations and abuse rather than gratitude; Su Chenlu then exposed his dependence on her support, ended their engagement, and left him. He collapsed after spitting blood. 3

Despite his injuries, Wei Zhaoting entered Wumeng Mountain with a group of martial artists to hunt a Mystic Mist Wolf Demon for the Demon Suppression Directorate assessment. As the group’s strongest member at the eighth level of the Martial Warrior Realm, he became its temporary leader, but repeatedly prioritized revenge on Wei Xuanfeng over the group’s objective. 9 10

Wei Xuanfeng’s guerrilla attacks killed or scattered most of the group. During this crisis, the old man within Wei Zhaoting—later identified as Black Banner Elder Mo—claimed to have saved him after his earlier near-fatal injuries by replenishing his blood and qi, at the cost of one soul and three spirit essences. 9 10

When Wei Xuanfeng finally cornered him near White Lotus Mountain, Wei Zhaoting begged the old man for power. Elder Mo offered his accumulated martial knowledge and memories, then took control of Wei Zhaoting’s body, declaring that he would personally look after his own descendants. Elder Mo later stated that Wei Zhaoting’s soul and spirit had already scattered. 12 13

Using Wei Zhaoting’s body, Elder Mo escaped Wei Xuanfeng, commanded Xuanlan Wolf Demons to pursue him, and began pursuing the Earth Immortal Spring Lotus. He allied with the Xuanlan Wolf King, eliminated two accompanying demon generals with Blackwater Mosquitoes, and moved against Chen Family Village. 13 28

At Chen Family Village, Elder Mo confronted Embroidery and Seven Killings, revealed himself as a Black Banner elder, and sought the Spring Lotus. He later publicly identified himself to Wei Xuanfeng as “Black Banner Elder Mo” and acted alongside the traitorous Northern Pacification Bureau commander Duan Hai. 36 37 40

Wei Zhaoting was resentful, entitled, and fixated on status. He believed Wei Xuanfeng’s Directorate token was wasted on someone he considered inferior, despite having benefited from Su Chenlu’s financial support. 2 3

His humiliation over Su Chenlu’s infidelity became an obsessive vendetta against Wei Xuanfeng. This fixation undermined his leadership, caused resentment among his companions, and ultimately contributed to their desertion and deaths. 9 10 11

Elder Mo

Elder Mo is composed, calculating, and cruel. He speaks with the manner of an experienced elder, manipulates both allies and enemies, and treats Wei Zhaoting’s body as a convenient vessel. 10 12 13

He pursues the Earth Immortal Spring Lotus with single-minded ambition, commands demonic creatures without hesitation, and kills obstacles after revealing his Black Banner identity. 28 36 40
