Background

Jiao Yu has served in the Northern Pacification Bureau for nearly twenty years and has practiced her blade technique for exactly twenty years. Her experience makes her one of the Bureau's most formidable frontline commanders. 19 69

She adopted Jiao Xiaoxiao and raised her as her own daughter, attempting to shield the child from the dangers of demon slaying and the Demon Suppression Directorate. 28 51

Before the events at Chen Family Village, Jiao Yu was especially close to Embroidery and Seven Killings. She believed Embroidery had died and drank for three days over the loss; their later reunion is affectionate but ultimately strained by Embroidery's secret orders and sacrifice plan. 19 30 31

Personality

Jiao Yu balances warmth with uncompromising standards. She personally teaches new recruits, checks for qi deviation after their cultivation, arranges better meals for exceptional trainees, and makes time to spar with them so they can improve under pressure. 17 18 20

As a commander, she is direct, fearless, and protective. She expects her subordinates to obey orders, but she also refuses to abandon civilians or treat her soldiers as disposable. Her conflict with Embroidery stems from this conviction: Jiao Yu rejects sacrificing Chen Family Village and her own subordinates merely for future strategic gains. 16 31

She is deeply affected by the deaths and betrayals surrounding the Chen Family Village operation, particularly Embroidery's death and Wu Santong's manipulation. Even so, she recovers quickly in battle and continues to place her unit's safety first. 32 39 40

Recruitment and Training

After Wei Xuanfeng, Wen Shihan, and Fox Murong pass the demon-slayer assessment, Wu Santong assigns them to Jiao Yu's unit. She introduces them to the Bureau, arranges their residence, and teaches them the dangerous but fast-acting Body Tempering Art. 16 17

Jiao Yu is delighted when all three cultivate inner force in a single night. She then tests them herself, defeats them without inner force, and begins tailoring their training: Wen Shihan receives meteor-hammer instruction, while Fox Murong is directed toward archery. 18 19 20

Xuanlan Wolf Pack Trial

As a newly promoted Hundred-Household Commander, Jiao Yu orders her three recruits to confront a wolf-demon pack, deliberately placing them in danger to force them to rely on one another. After they emerge victorious, she recognizes their growth and announces their promotion to Banner Leaders. 21 23

Southern Pacification Bureau Conflict

Jiao Yu intervenes when Gongsun Jin attempts to overwhelm Wei Xuanfeng, Wen Shihan, and Fox Murong. She challenges him publicly and defeats the peak Martial Master with a single blade strike, breaking his martial heart and establishing the Northern Pacification Bureau's superiority. 26 27

Chen Family Village and the Earth Immortal Spring Lotus

Jiao Yu leads a mission to rescue Chen Family Village from Xuanlan Wolf Demons and reunites with Embroidery and Seven Killings. When Embroidery invokes a Ten-Thousand-Urgency Order to force Jiao Yu's unit to transport the Earth Immortal Spring Lotus, Jiao Yu yields only because she cannot bear to risk the three disciples she trained. 29 30 31

After learning that the jade box is a decoy and that her group has been made into bait, Jiao Yu immediately regains her fighting resolve. She carries the decoy to draw the wolf pack away, survives, and returns to save her subordinates. 32 39 40

Black Banner Conflict and Recovery

Jiao Yu confronts Duan Hai after his alliance with Elder Mo is exposed. She later faces the Blackwater Mosquito directly, is poisoned, and loses the ability to circulate inner force for a time. 40 42 43 48

During the group's recovery, Jiao Yu gradually accepts Wei Xuanfeng's care. Their relationship becomes intimate, though she attempts to end it and restore professional distance by having Xiaoxiao formally acknowledge Wei Xuanfeng, Fox Murong, and Wen Shihan as senior siblings. 48 51 53 55

Beast Tide

As demon activity intensifies around Kang City, Jiao Yu recognizes the threat of a Demon Emperor-level Xuanlan Wolf Demon and resolves to confront Wu Santong. 56

After Wei Xuanfeng takes Xiaoxiao into the beast tide, Jiao Yu reacts with anger born from fear for her daughter, then later entrusts Wei Xuanfeng with greater responsibility. She takes his place in Wu Santong's campaign against the Demon King and privately decides to leave the corrupted Northern Pacification Bureau once the crisis ends. 68 69
