Background / History

Lin Wanrou was born into a collateral branch of the Lin Family, an affiliated family of the Myriad Dharma Sect. Her low birth gave her little standing within the clan, but her calculating nature and aptitude for handling affairs won the support of Lin Tianhai, a powerful Lin Family elder. After reaching Foundation Establishment, she was assigned to the Celestial Sea Commerce Association. 26 74

Two years before the plot against He Sheng, she became chief of the association's failing Lower River Branch. Rather than merely restore its finances, she sought to remake the Silver Sand River's economy by installing the Eight Scenery Dharma Coin as the regional currency and replacing spirit stones. The scheme would strengthen the Eight Scenery Sect and exploit her Lin Family connection to its sect master. 26

Her later searches through local inheritance grounds uncovered records concerning the Heavenly River Sect: collecting its minor secret realms could allegedly open the sect's greater secret realm and reveal its lost treasures. When Lin Tianhai pressed her for the true reason behind her actions in the Silver Sand River, she disclosed this discovery. He allowed her to redeem herself by rebuilding the Lower River Branch and gave her ten years to locate the secret realms. 74

Plot Against the He Family

Lin Wanrou targeted He Sheng and the He Family to remove resistance to her Eight Scenery Dharma Coin project. She had Ye Shaochen strike He Sheng down near Ten Thousand Stars Mountain, then ordered Elder Xu to spread word that He Sheng had been killed by Golden Cloud Sect. 3 20 26

She also used Wu Feng and the Soul-Devouring Gu to control Ji Yunlai, intending to manipulate the He Family's internal affairs and seize its resources. 20 29

Destruction of the Lower River Branch

He Sheng infiltrated the Lower River Branch under Wu Feng's identity after killing the real Wu Feng. With Kou Xiang'er's coerced assistance, he killed Elder Xu and stripped the branch of its assets. Lin Wanrou initially believed that Wu Feng and Xiang'er had genuinely betrayed her. 25 27 30 36

The collapse destroyed her immediate power base in the Silver Sand River and caused Wu Yong to become even more wary of her proposals. 36

Lin Family Reinstatement

Facing accusations from Lin Yuanxiao that she had employed demonic spies and neglected her duties, Lin Wanrou was summoned before Lin Tianhai. Her revelation about the Heavenly River Sect secret realms earned her another chance. 74

After learning of the cultivator who subdued the Liu Family at Linked Moon Lake, Lin Wanrou suspected He Sheng had survived. Fearful that he had orchestrated the first branch's destruction, she kept Chen Keshan at her side and chose to investigate Long Sun Mountain herself. 83

At He Jingxing's celebration, she presented the ominously named Bloodglow Stone and provoked the He Family by demanding that the Zhou and Wen Families jointly spar Chen Keshan. Her aim was to force any hidden He Family protector—particularly He Sheng—to reveal himself. 91

Public Punishment and Death

Qingyin of the Mysterious Heaven Sect interrupted Lin Wanrou's provocation, denounced her for deceiving and inciting Ye Shaochen, destroyed her protective talisman, and publicly branded her with words of condemnation. Lin Wanrou endured the punishment and retreated with the severely wounded Chen Keshan. 92

Seeing that Lin Wanrou was isolated and Chen Keshan was crippled, He Sheng immediately moved to eliminate them. Using his Thousand Waters Phantom Dharma Body and water-based methods, he attacked the rebuilt Lower River Branch, killed both cultivators, and searched Lin Wanrou's soul for information about the Heavenly River Sect's secret realm. 93 94

After her death, the Lin Family attributed the Lower River Branch's second destruction to the rogue cultivator Xu Kun and circulated the view that Lin Wanrou had brought disaster upon herself. 95
