Background

He Ziyang was born into an extremely distant collateral branch of the He Family. As a youth, he was bullied by main-branch disciples at He Family Bay for his low status. He Sheng, then disguised as an old man, intervened on his behalf after witnessing the abuse. 14

Recognizing Ziyang's upright temperament and aptitude for the sword, He Sheng gave him the intermediate-grade Thousand-Fathom Jade Severing Art and an Ever-Victorious Token that granted him access to Returning Origin Cave. Although the He Family lacked a true sword inheritance at the time, the art could condense metal-element Sword Qi. 16
