Watching Mo Lin get hit by his special flames, the Soul Shadow Flying Dragon let out a sigh of relief. At last, its soul could return to its body.
"What a clever soul beast. Too bad my luck seems to be better."
Then, accompanied by the sound of a vacuum cleaner, the white flames vanished. Mo Lin stood unharmed where he was, while an iron ball floated in the air after sucking the last wisp of white flame into itself.
Mo Lin glanced at the floating Thief Devouring Beast.
"As expected of Village Chief Ma's treasure. It's damn reliable!"
At the instant before the flames hit him, Mo Lin had taken a gamble and held the Thief Devouring Beast in front of his chest. He had hoped that the flames were still composed of soul power and could therefore be devoured by the beast.
The result proved that Mo Lin had guessed correctly. In this world, every elemental and energy-based attack used by soul beasts relied on soul power—even the soul of the soul beast before him.
The Soul Shadow Flying Dragon was truly panicking now. Its soul leaving its body and the special flames expelled from that soul were its greatest assets in dominating this mountain range. Yet, before this human, those assets had completely failed. Fear, worry, and all kinds of negative emotions flooded its mind.
Mo Lin extended his right hand, and the Thief Devouring Beast fed the white flames it had just absorbed back to him.
"Qi Body Origin Flow!"
A massive amount of soul power surged from within Mo Lin, all of it gathering in his right hand to refine the white flames and grant him, briefly, the ability to damage souls.
Judging by the time, the Soul Shadow Flying Dragon's body should have mostly recovered. As long as its soul returned first, it would still hold the advantage. Hope for survival and victory reignited in its heart, and its soul immediately turned around and fled toward its cave with all its strength.
Mo Lin was in no hurry. He refined the flames while calculating the distance between himself and the flying dragon's soul.
When the flying dragon had fled five hundred meters away, Mo Lin fused the flames' properties into his own soul power. Aiming in the soul's direction with one eye, he said:
"Trying to run? Palm Thunder!"
The Palm Thunder, temporarily capable of damaging souls, had its range and power greatly enhanced by Qi Body Origin Flow. It shot explosively from Mo Lin's right hand, passed through the forest, pierced dozens of trees, and directly penetrated the Soul Shadow Flying Dragon's soul.
At the moment it was pierced, the Soul Shadow Flying Dragon's fleeting hope finally turned into despair. Its soul slowly faded away where it was.
Mo Lin adjusted his breathing and flexed his right hand. That last attack had put quite a burden on his arm. He then cleared away the Yin Five Thunders he had scattered everywhere to maintain the balance of yin and yang, before slowly returning to the cave.
He first checked the eight puppets. Most of their soul power had been nearly exhausted, but aside from the puppet bitten by the flying dragon and the one that had taken the flying dragon's attacks head-on, none had suffered serious damage. He poured all the remaining soul power from the other seven puppets into the one using the Golden Light Incantation, leaving it to stand guard and carry him out later. The other seven were all stored back in his bracelet.
Mo Lin summoned his Primordial Qi and drew over the purple soul ring floating above the flying dragon's corpse. Then he looked at the corpse itself. It had almost no external wounds, and when combined with its ability to let its soul leave its body, it perfectly matched the characteristics of Double Full Hands' simultaneous cultivation of life and nature. It seemed this time, he could successfully achieve his goal.
Mo Lin sat cross-legged and began absorbing the soul ring.
The instant he began, powerful soul power flooded into his limbs and bones. The gap in age this time was astonishingly vast. Not a single part of Mo Lin's body was free of pain—especially his hands.
Mo Lin began mobilizing the Yin and Yang Five Thunders and the power of the two immortal herbs, forming a taiji within his body to dissolve the powerful impact of soul power while also raising his mastery of thunder techniques.
From a third-person perspective, Mo Lin was continuously emitting black and white lightning. His Primordial Qi had turned red and blue, likewise forming a taiji that constantly revolved between his hands.
After this continued for a full two hours, Mo Lin finally entered a state of inner vision. But when he opened his eyes, the scene before him was actually a modern city. Looking at this cliché setting, Mo Lin complained:
"Can't you come up with something new? Do I really have to watch all that crap from my past life again? Hell no!"
He then closed his eyes and silently recited the Mind-Cleansing Incantation.
When he reached the ninth recitation, Mo Lin felt warmth in his hands and opened his eyes. He had somehow already left the state of inner vision and returned to reality. Looking at his hands, he found blue energy wrapped around his right hand and red energy around his left. Mo Lin eagerly manipulated the blue energy into his brain, wanting to examine his memories from infancy.
But then his back suddenly felt itchy, as though insects were crawling over it.
"Could it be an external soul bone?! But why doesn't it hurt at all?"
Mo Lin looked at the red energy in his hand.
"Could it be because Double Full Hands can regenerate broken bones, so growing bones is already as painless to me as growing fingernails?"
A minute later, a pair of pitch-black dragon wings truly emerged from Mo Lin's back. The most obvious sensation he felt throughout the process was itchiness. There was none of the agonizing, life-or-death pain Tang San had suffered in the original work. Because the process was so easy, Mo Lin initially felt almost nothing about obtaining an external soul bone.
Still, since it was something growing on his own body, Mo Lin carefully examined the wings behind him. They looked exactly like the Soul Shadow Flying Dragon's wings and still retained their clawed function.
Just as he was about to test what other abilities they possessed, the dragon wings directly turned transparent and entered a soul-like state. Mo Lin gave them a flap and found that they could still lift him into the air. (Keep Newton's coffin nailed shut.)
Moreover, in their soul state, Mo Lin could make the dragon wings ignite with white flames capable of burning souls.
This operation had truly yielded a full harvest. For Mo Lin, who possessed Double Full Hands, souls and memories could now be altered however he pleased. If he wanted to dig intelligence out of a spy, he could dig as much as he wanted. He could even make spies pledge loyalty to him. However, judging from the original work, Double Full Hands was clearly not a frontal combat skill. Its range was only around a C, about the same as Star Platinum, so it did little to improve Mo Lin's direct combat ability.
This external soul bone, however, not only granted Mo Lin air superiority, but while its soul state consumed more soul power, it could also ignore all physical and elemental attacks. Only techniques targeting the soul—or rather, the mind—could possibly strike the wings. The white flames were an excellent long-range attack method as well, ignoring all defenses and directly burning the soul like the Zhuge Family's True Fire. They were nearly impossible to guard against, and they even saved Mo Lin the time of cultivating Snorting Qi, a technique that targeted souls.
