Background / History

Xiao Zhan led the Xiao Family during its rivalry with the Jia Lie and Ao Ba Families in Wu Tan City. As Xiao Yan’s father, he resented Galeo for repeatedly humiliating Xiao Yan after the latter’s cultivation regressed. However, Xiao Zhan believed his positions as both an elder and clan leader prevented him from personally acting against Galeo. He was therefore pleased when Xiao Lei crippled Galeo, though he also warned Xiao Lei that the Jia Lie Family might retaliate and offered him protection. 5

When Gale Bi attempted to force the Xiao Family to surrender Xiao Lei, Xiao Zhan and the Three Great Elders refused. The family’s united stance caused the Jia Lie Family to temporarily abandon the threat of open war. 9

At the Mittel Auction House, Xiao Zhan accompanied Xiao Lei and Xun’er, participated in the political sparring among Wu Tan City’s major families, and publicly declared that Xiao Lei’s six-hundred-thousand-gold bid for the Wind Scroll Technique was made on behalf of the Xiao Family. 8 10

After Xiao Lei presented the Wind Scroll Technique to the family, Xiao Zhan permitted him to study the Xiao Family’s clan-defending cultivation method, Raging Lion Rampant Qi, as well as the other techniques in the Douqi Pavilion. 12

The destruction of the Jia Lie and Ao Ba Families initially troubled Xiao Zhan, who feared the unknown Dou Ling expert might eventually target the Xiao Family. Xiao Lei later revealed that Ling Kui—presented as a servant left behind by his master—was responsible, easing the clan’s immediate fears. 49

Personality

Xiao Zhan is protective of both his family and Xiao Lei. He worries about the consequences of Xiao Lei’s actions against powerful enemies, but does not abandon him under pressure. 5 9

As clan leader, he is cautious and strategic. He recognizes that even an apparent benefit—such as the destruction of rival families—may conceal a threat to the Xiao Family. 49

He is also openly grateful toward those who protect Xiao Yan or contribute to the clan. He repeatedly thanks Xiao Lei for defending Xiao Yan, supporting him at the Three-Year Agreement, and sharing valuable resources with the family. 12 44 123 133
