Western Wilderness.
Countless mountains rose in unbroken succession, their slopes lush with green trees and filled with wandering wild beasts.
A child dressed in orange lay atop one of the peaks.
He suddenly woke from his unconsciousness and saw nothing but wilderness around him. Grass taller than he was blocked his view, leaving him unable to tell where he was for a moment.
"I just stayed up late playing Lightning Flash. Where the hell did this send me?"
Son Gohan abruptly sprang to his feet and instinctively looked around, his eyes still full of confusion.
When he saw that he was standing atop a cliff, with strange-looking animals below, he became even more bewildered.
"What the hell is that? A dinosaur? Is this some twenty-first-century world?"
Once he got a clear look at the yellowish-brown creature, he felt his scalp tingle, because it was unmistakably a dinosaur—something that should not exist.
Weren't dinosaurs supposed to be extinct? Had he traveled back hundreds of millions of years?
The thought of having to survive in a prehistoric era instantly gave Son Gohan a headache. He had never even seen a dinosaur before, so how was he supposed to know how to survive in this savage age?
"What is this, wilderness survival? Am I supposed to fight dinosaurs?"
He rubbed his head in pain, only to suddenly feel a wave of dizziness, as though countless streams of information were flooding into his mind.
At almost the same moment, the force field around him began to stir.
A faint current of air first coiled around his body, then rapidly spun faster, forming a powerful gale.
Whoosh!
The surging airflow swept through the surroundings, forcing the dense bushes to bend low.
In the distance, a saber-toothed tiger had been staring intently at a mountain goat and had even crouched into a pouncing stance. Yet at that moment, it seemed to sense something. Its outstretched claws slammed fiercely into the ground instead.
A look of unmistakable terror appeared on the tiger's face.
It turned toward the mountain and saw a child who seemed to be floating in midair.
The saber-toothed tiger instinctively plunged into the nearby brush, then poked out its massive head and stared at the human child on the cliff in trembling fear.
More than a dozen miles away.
Piccolo floated in the air, deep in meditative training as he prepared for the Saiyans' arrival a year later.
Suddenly, he sensed a powerful aura rising in the distance.
His eyes snapped open as he stared at the distant mountains in surprise. "That aura... is it coming from that brat's direction?"
His green skin seemed to turn an even deeper shade under the stimulation of that aura. With no time to think further, he shot into the sky and flew toward the distance.
On the cliff.
As the information flooded through Son Gohan's mind, he finally understood his situation.
He had been reincarnated into the world of Dragon Balls and had become Son Goku's son, Son Gohan. However, because his soul had previously been too weak, his memories of his past life had remained dormant.
Not long ago, his uncle Raditz had crossed the galaxy to Earth in search of a partner, only to be taken out in one go by Uncle Piccolo along with his father.
Afterward, Uncle Piccolo had thrown him here, and amid his turbulent emotions, he had awakened the memories of his past life.
Then, as those memories merged, his past and present lives connected, allowing him to fully awaken as well.
The souls and spirits of his two lives had fused, allowing him to draw out his potential to a greater extent. That was why his aura had erupted earlier.
Now that he had connected the memories of both lives, dinosaurs no longer seemed frightening to him.
This might indeed be wilderness survival, but he was the half-Saiyan Son Gohan!
So the predicament before him was no real problem at all.
As he looked at the wild dinosaurs roaming below, he recalled what was about to happen next.
For now, he needed to survive here and train with Uncle Piccolo to prepare for the Saiyans' invasion a year later.
The enemies then would be Vegeta, prince of the Saiyans, and Nappa, a warrior from a distinguished lineage.
Their strength might not have been particularly high in the Dragon Balls world, where experts gathered in droves, but at this point in time, they posed an enormous threat to Earth.
According to the original course of events, only his father could fight those two. If anyone else, including himself, went up against them, they would merely be toyed with. Either one of them could kill people like them!
In fact, that was exactly what had happened in the original story. Aside from himself and Uncle Krillin, everyone else had been easily killed. The rhythm of the battle had been completely controlled by the enemy.
Now that he knew what would happen, he naturally had to make changes. The first thing to do was train.
Even after training in the wilderness with Uncle Piccolo, his battle power had only reached 2,800 when he finally became enraged. That was nowhere near enough to deal with Vegeta and Nappa.
So, in order not to waste his talent, he should train in the Gravity Chamber!
He would need to ask Aunt Bulma to make the Gravity Chamber. It might take some time, but the results would definitely be better than before.
Having made up his mind, he stood and looked out over the distant wilderness. Earth's scenery was so beautiful, yet its future was anything but.
Because one cosmic crisis after another would soon arrive: the androids from the future, the ancient demon fetus sealed underground, and perhaps even the returning emperor of the universe.
Thinking of the string of enemies yet to come, Son Gohan let out a soft sigh.
His talent was pretty good, so dealing with the powerful enemies that would come one after another should have been manageable. But some brats would blow up planets at the slightest disagreement, and those were much harder to deal with.
[Congratulations, Host. Your past and present lives have connected, and you have received a gift from fate: Lightning Flash]
Just as he was feeling a slight headache coming on, a voice rang out in his mind.
As a reincarnator, he immediately understood that his cheat had arrived. But why did its name sound so much like that game?
With that thought in mind, he focused his senses to receive more information.
[Lightning Flash: A collection of all Dragon Ball worlds. You may randomly match with one of those worlds and battle the corresponding powerful enemy. Upon victory, you will receive a random reward.] [Current available matches: 1] [One additional match will be gained each full year.]
The introduction to Lightning Flash was incredibly simple—so simple that Son Gohan wanted to complain.
Because this thing apparently did nothing to help with cultivation. It merely randomly matched him with an opponent, then sent him into battle against them.
It was somewhat like that game's matchmaking system.
The only problem was that the number of available matches was far too low. It only increased once a year.
And he had to win to receive the corresponding reward, so he could not use it casually—especially not now.
After all, he had not even begun training yet. Even if he matched with someone, he would lose far more often than he won. It would be better to save it until after he had trained.
"Right, what kinds of rewards can I get?"
[The Host may obtain anything within the concept of all dimensions, including potential development, various skills such as Instant Transmission, and rewards including all Dragon Balls.]
Upon learning what rewards he could receive after defeating an opponent, a gleam flashed through Son Gohan's eyes.
Many of those were indeed things he needed. If he could obtain them through matchmaking, then this system was actually somewhat useful.
"Time to eat and train!"
His stomach felt a little empty again, so he turned his gaze toward a dinosaur in the distance. He had not eaten this kind of dinosaur before.
Whoosh!
As Son Gohan headed toward the dinosaur, a stream of white air arrived from afar in an instant.
A white cape billowed in the fierce wind. It was King Piccolo, who had rushed here anxiously, only to discover that the source of that aura was actually Son Goku's child!
The self-proclaimed Demon King's skin seemed to turn an even deeper shade of green.
He had only thrown the brat here not long ago, intending to change his spoiled young-master temperament. How had his aura grown so much already? Could fear and anger have strengthened him instead?
Just like when he had dealt with Son Goku's older brother?
Countless doubts filled his mind. He wanted to go down and take a look, but sensing how powerful the other's ki was, he hesitated.
