Background / History

Babidi revives Majin Buu after the battle between Vegeta and the controlled Cell provides enough energy to fill Buu’s egg. Buu manifests from pink gas as a tall pink creature marked with red lines, carrying evil energy from Hell. He immediately rejects Babidi’s attempted control and kills him. He then turns Dabura into chocolate and consumes him, later absorbs Cell, and seeks the power of Vegeta, Trunks, and Son Gohan. 127 128 129

An enhanced version of Buu becomes Son Gohan’s ranked opponent six years later. Gohan learns that this Buu used knowledge of the future and divine power to deceive and absorb Vegito, then continued absorbing exceptional fighters across the universe, including Broly and the Supreme Kai. By killing the Supreme Kai within his own body, Buu also causes Beerus’s death and Whis’s dormancy, leaving him free to dominate that universe. 154 156

Buu waits for Gohan at Supreme Kai’s World, using a crystal ball and cell-based illusions of Gohan’s family and friends to provoke him. He initially treats the confrontation as entertainment, but grows increasingly frustrated when Gohan resists his deceptions, overwhelms his clones, and counters his escalating absorbed powers. 157 160 161

Despite drawing out Broly’s power and pushing his divine energy to its limit, Buu is defeated by Gohan’s successive transformations. Gohan eventually uses the Power of Wishes and Spirit Fission to separate Vegito and Broly from Buu, then removes the rest of his absorbed beings and erases Buu completely. 164 165

In a later incident, Gohan releases another sealed Buu and removes the evil within him. The purified Buu is childlike, food-loving, and immediately befriends Gohan. The extracted evil becomes the gaunt Evil Buu, who is easily defeated by Vegeta. The Grand Supreme Kai asks Mr. Satan to guide the purified Buu whenever he awakens. 180 181

Appearance

Buu’s appearance changes substantially depending on his absorbed powers and the portion of his nature currently manifested.

Personality

The enhanced Buu is playful, theatrical, and cruel. He treats the destruction of Earth and the suffering of its inhabitants as entertainment, creates illusions of Gohan’s loved ones, and imitates the voices of Goku, Chi-Chi, and Piccolo to provoke him. He is confident enough to offer Gohan “teaching” during their battle, but becomes openly enraged once Gohan consistently outclasses him. 157 161 163

Buu is highly prideful about his adaptability and absorption-based power. He considers himself all-powerful, assumes he can eventually surpass any opponent, and is especially fixated on absorbing Gohan after sensing his divine power. 158 160 164

The purified Buu is markedly different: innocent, hungry, easily pleased by sweets, and receptive to kindness. After Gohan feeds him cake and removes his evil, he promises to protect Gohan if anyone bullies him. 180
