In a remote valley.

Bare rock walls and gravelly ground surrounded it, with hardly any sign of human life. A place like this was perfect for a battlefield; they would not have to worry about the fighting spreading to a city.

Son Gohan had just arrived.

He descended from the sky, his white aura receding as he immediately suppressed his energy to the lowest level.

His expression was grave as he merely glanced up at the sky.

That evil presence was getting closer and closer.

Before long, the sound of something slicing through the air came from behind him.

Krillin, Tien, and Chiaotzu landed beside him, clearly having flown here in a rush. Krillin looked at Son Gohan and forced a smile. "Gohan, you just got here too, right?"

Son Gohan nodded.

"This is going to be a tough battle."

After saying that, Krillin's expression turned grim as well.

Son Gohan did not respond. After returning from Planet Namek, and with the Grand Elder having unlocked his potential, his current battle power was roughly 1.5 million. It was more than enough to deal with ordinary opponents, but against the early-game boss, the Emperor of the Universe, it was hardly worth mentioning.

But he had a backup plan.

The multicolored Seed of Dimensions in his sea of consciousness had not yet fully charged, but if things truly came down to it, he could forcibly squeeze out the last trace of its energy, tear open a dimensional rift, and develop in another time-space. Once he had gathered enough strength, he could return and use the Dragon Balls to revive everyone.

That escape route was what gave him the confidence to stand here.

On a rock nearby, Piccolo was already standing there. His arms were folded across his chest, his energy suppressed to an extremely low level, and he remained silent.

Vegeta had arrived as well.

He landed a little distance away from the others, arms crossed and wearing a sour expression as though someone owed him money.

Then, a helicopter came wobbling over and landed on the flat ground outside the valley. Yamcha jumped out of the cockpit, while Bulma carried a toolbox, her hair blown into a mess by the wind.

Everyone was here.

No one said much. They all stared up at the sky.

The thick clouds split apart.

A massive circular spaceship descended from above the clouds. Its hatch opened, and white steam poured out.

Mecha Frieza walked out.

Half his body had been replaced by machinery—his arm, chest, and half his face were covered in metal patches, like he had been pieced together from bargain parts.

The remaining half of his face still looked the same, with that signature smile curling at the corner of his mouth.

"Ho ho ho ho—"

"Greetings, people of Earth." Mecha Frieza's gaze swept over the crowd before finally settling on Vegeta. "Well, if it isn't Prince Vegeta. So now you're hanging around with Earthlings too?"

Vegeta snorted coldly, his clenched fists bulging with veins.

"Cut the crap, Frieza."

His voice restrained the fury within it, though it was mixed with intense unwillingness.

Thinking of this, Vegeta cursed in rage.

"That bastard Kakarot became a Super Saiyan, and he still didn't finish Frieza off for good."

"Damn it!"

Just then, an unfamiliar figure appeared.

A purple-haired youth landed before Frieza, a sword strapped to his back. He stood tall and straight, his expression cold.

It was Future Trunks.

"Frieza." He spoke in an incredibly steady tone. "I'm your opponent. This time, I'll end you myself."

Frieza looked over the brat who had appeared out of nowhere, sizing him up before letting out a disdainful sneer.

"Heh heh, fine. Pitiful insect, whether you die early or late makes no difference."

He waved a hand.

A swarm of underlings poured out of the ship behind him, baring their fangs and claws as they charged at Trunks.

Faced with the minions rushing toward him, Trunks remained completely unruffled.

He stood calmly in place as an aura suddenly erupted around him. Then he raised his hand and unleashed the Prince's Battle Technique.

Countless golden energy blasts poured from his hand, blanketing the sky.

The minions at the front did not even have time to scream before the energy waves pierced straight through them, blowing them into fragments. Those behind them tried to flee, only to be punched through from behind by pursuing blasts, leaving barely anything behind.

In a single exchange, they were wiped out.

Frieza's expression did not change.

To him, cannon fodder at this level was nothing to mourn. He could always recruit more.

"Frieza." Trunks lowered his hand, his gaze turning cold. "Mr. Goku was too merciful and spared your life. But I won't be like him."

"Ho ho—" Frieza chuckled. "I hope you have what it takes."

Trunks did not waste any more words.

He suddenly lowered his stance, clenched both fists, and erupted with a furious roar.

BOOM—!!!

Golden aura surged into the sky, and the ground beneath his feet cracked outward in every direction.

Chunks of rock were swept into the air by the shockwave. A violent gale even tore through the valley, making everyone's hair and clothes flap wildly.

Krillin took a step back, sweat beading on his forehead.

"This energy... it's so strong."

Vegeta's pupils contracted.

Son Gohan was equally struck by it. Super Saiyan really did feel oppressive at this stage.

Within the golden flames, Trunks's hair stood on end and turned a brilliant gold. His pupils became emerald green, and as he stood there, his aura was astonishingly powerful.

Seeing that the brat before him could transform into a Super Saiyan as well, disbelief appeared on the remaining half of Frieza's face.

"How... can there still be Saiyan monkeys capable of taking this form?!"

Trunks did not answer.

The next moment, he moved.

His body vanished into thin air, leaving only an afterimage behind. Before Frieza could react, Trunks had already appeared in front of him.

King Cold stood nearby and tried to stop him, but he was too late.

The sword on Trunks's back left its sheath.

A flash of steel.

Frieza's body split down the middle, the cut clean and neat. He had no ability to resist at all.

Then came several more slashes.

They were too fast to see. All anyone could make out were several elegant arcs of sword light through the air as Frieza's body was chopped up like Fruit Ninja, without even letting out a complete scream.

Trunks retreated, drawing his right hand back to his waist.

Golden energy gathered in his palm, compressed to the extreme. The light grew increasingly blinding.

"It's over."

Trunks thrust out his palm.

The golden energy wave instantly swallowed Frieza's remains. Frieza's eyes bulged wide, his lips moving as he muttered, "How... is this possible?" But the next second, his entire body turned to ash.

The roar of the explosion echoed through the valley.

Only then did King Cold react, his rage clouding his judgment.

His eyes turned bloodshot.

"You—!!!"

Trunks's expression remained blank.

The next moment, he appeared behind King Cold.

He raised his hand and drove the Sword of the Brave into him from behind, piercing through his abdomen, then slashed fiercely upward—

King Cold's body split cleanly into two halves down the middle.

Trunks aimed his palm at King Cold's head.

"It's over."

Boom! Boom!

Another explosion thundered out. Frieza and his father did not even leave behind intact corpses, both turning to drifting ash.

The valley fell silent.

The Z Fighters stood where they were, not a single one speaking.

Krillin's mouth hung open, Yamcha clenched his fists, and Bulma covered her mouth beside the helicopter.

Everyone was thinking the same thing—

Who was this boy?

Was he an enemy or a friend?

Trunks turned around and flew toward them.

Vegeta still had not unclenched his fists, Piccolo's muscles tensed, and Krillin subconsciously took half a step back.

Trunks landed on the ground, a bright smile appearing on his face.

"Don't misunderstand, everyone. I mean no harm."

His tone was relaxed, like a gentle reassurance to them all.

"Goku will return to Earth from here in about two hours," he said. "Let's wait for him to come back first."

Those words were like a reassurance.

Krillin instantly breathed a sigh of relief, his face breaking into a smile.

"Goku... Goku's coming back?!"

Tien let out a long breath, while Yamcha laughed outright and vigorously patted Krillin beside him.

Son Gohan noticed that Trunks's gaze had been drifting in his direction the whole time.

There was a certain look of confirmation in his eyes, as though he were seeing someone he had not met in a very long time.

Son Gohan met his gaze and nodded at him amicably.

Trunks froze slightly, then nodded as well. The smile on his lips grew a little gentler.

The crisis had been averted.

Son Gohan did not stay where he was for long. He walked straight up to Bulma and spoke in a voice that still sounded somewhat childish.

"Aunt Bulma, can that detector be modified to detect metal? I need it. Please."

Bulma looked at Gohan's serious expression and burst out laughing.

"Of course, little Gohan. Wait a moment—it'll be ready soon."

She turned and walked over to the helicopter, pulled a toolbox out from beneath the seat, then sat on the ground and began tinkering with the detector.

Son Gohan stood nearby, watching her skillfully loosen screws as he planned his next move.
