Two streaks of light cut across the sky and landed in front of the house on Mount Paozu.
The moment Son Goku touched down, he shouted at the top of his lungs, "I'm back! Chi-Chi!"
Son Gohan landed behind him, gently setting the huge bundle of gold and jewels wrapped in ki outside the house. Then he called toward the interior as well, "Mom, we're back."
The door was immediately pushed open.
Chi-Chi hurried out, still wearing an apron, her face full of anxiety. "Where have you two run off to this time?" Then she saw the father and son standing safely at the door.
"It's good that you're back, good that you're back." She reached out and brushed the dust off Gohan's shoulder. "Dinner will be ready soon. Rest for now."
After saying that, she turned to head back to the kitchen—wait!
There was one more person eating today. Goku was back.
She rapidly did the math in her head, her brows knitting together. Not enough. It definitely wasn't enough.
There were two Saiyans in the house: one was still growing, while the other was practically a bottomless pit. The amount of food she had prepared only accounted for herself and Gohan.
"Wait a second, I need to make a few more dishes."
She pulled open the refrigerator and took out a large bundle of vegetables, along with several huge chunks of rock-hard frozen meat.
She shut the refrigerator door, turned around, and immediately began washing vegetables by the sink without a moment's rest.
Son Gohan stood at the kitchen entrance, watching his mother's busy back, and felt terrible.
Chi-Chi's face was full of exhaustion. Over time, faint dark circles and wrinkles had formed beneath her eyes. Her hair was casually tied into a ponytail, with several loose strands stuck to her forehead by sweat.
"Mom."
Son Gohan walked over and said excitedly, "Dad brought you a present when he came back."
Chi-Chi's hands froze.
She turned around, her eyes wide, and exclaimed in disbelief, though a hint of anticipation filled her heart.
"Huh—?! Really? Goku knows how to bring presents home?"
Son Gohan nodded vigorously and pointed outside. "It's right out there."
Chi-Chi followed the direction of his finger and ran to the door.
Then she froze, somewhat unable to believe what she was seeing.
Under the sunlight, that enormous pile of gold and jewels lay quietly in the open space. Gold coins were piled into a small mountain, gold bars were stacked haphazardly in the middle, and all kinds of gemstone necklaces and jewelry were scattered among them.
Chi-Chi's expression shifted from curious shock to wild delight.
"Whoa—!!!"
"So much gold and jewelry! We're rich! We're rich, rich, rich!"
She rushed over, grabbed a handful of gold coins, and let them clatter through her fingers. Her eyes gleamed, and she looked as though she had become ten years younger.
All the exhaustion and anxiety that had built up in her heart vanished beneath the gleam of that mountain of gold.
Then she turned and ran toward Son Goku, leaping up to throw her arms around his neck.
"Goku!"
She sweetly kissed him several times, leaving Son Goku utterly dazed. He could only stand there with a foolish grin on his face.
Chi-Chi jumped down, clapped her hands, and strode briskly toward the kitchen.
Her steps were light. In an instant, her waist no longer ached, her back no longer hurt, and she was brimming with energy from head to toe. That must have been the power of money!
"I'm making extra dishes tonight!"
Son Goku stood where he was, watching Chi-Chi charge into the kitchen in a flurry, and scratched his head.
Before long, the kitchen filled with the crackling sounds of stir-frying.
Then dish after dish was brought to the table.
First came a huge tub brimming with steaming white rice. Then there was a massive bowl of ramen, topped with char siu and soft-boiled eggs.
There were two large plates each of buns and steamed dumplings, with three stacked bamboo steamers. A whole roasted dinosaur leg was placed on the table, still sizzling with grease, along with thick-cut pan-seared steaks.
There was also a mixed vegetable soup with a bit of everything in it, so fresh it could make your eyebrows fall off. Finally, there were stir-fried greens grown in their own garden, bright and emerald green.
The table was packed to the brim, nearly unable to hold it all.
Son Gohan sat at the dining table, looking at the feast before him, when his uncooperative stomach let out a loud growl.
"Alright! The last dish is here—"
Chi-Chi placed a plate of fried spring rolls on the table, finally untied her apron, and sat down beside it.
"Let's eat!"
Son Gohan had been waiting to hear those words.
He picked up the heaping bowl of rice in front of him and began shoveling food directly into his mouth with his chopsticks—rice, beef, greens, dinosaur meat, everything went in.
Son Goku beside them was no less impressive. He held a dinosaur leg in one hand while stuffing steamed dumplings into his mouth with the other. His table manners could only be described as a whirlwind sweeping away fallen leaves. Father and son went through plate after bowl, and the dishes on the table visibly dwindled.
"Delicious, delicious! Mom's cooking is the best!" Son Gohan praised through a mouthful of food.
Chi-Chi scolded him fondly, "Eat slowly. No one's going to steal it from you."
As she spoke, she added another huge scoop of rice to Son Gohan's bowl.
Then she turned and shot Son Goku a glare.
"You eat less! Gohan is still growing. If he doesn't get enough to eat, you're finished."
With half a dinosaur leg stuffed in his mouth, Son Goku looked at Chi-Chi innocently. "But I'm not full either..."
Watching this warm scene, Son Gohan could not help bursting into laughter. The clatter of chopsticks against bowls rang nonstop across the table, while the steam from the rice mingled with the fragrance of the stir-fried dishes.
Full and satisfied, father and son leaned back in their chairs with round, bulging bellies. They patted their stomachs in unison and let out contented sighs.
The two of them lounged in their chairs, squinting comfortably.
Chi-Chi stood up and began clearing the dishes.
With swift, practiced movements, she swept the bones and scraps from the table into the trash, stacked the bowls and plates together, and started washing them.
Chi-Chi dried her hands and walked over, the smile still lingering on her face.
"With this money, we can enroll Gohan in the best tutoring classes and hire the best private tutors." She looked at Gohan, her eyes filled with hope. "Our Gohan will definitely become the finest scholar when he grows up."
As soon as Son Goku heard that, he muttered unhappily under his breath.
"That won't do, Chi-Chi." He sat up straight, his tone serious. "In three years, androids will appear on Earth. They'll endanger the whole planet. Gohan has to train with me."
Chi-Chi frowned.
"No!" Her voice immediately rose several octaves. "Gohan is going to become a scholar in the future! What if following you around and fighting ruins his studies?"
Son Goku wanted to argue, but he did not know how to begin.
Seeing the atmosphere turn awkward, Son Gohan looked from side to side, then walked over to Chi-Chi.
"Mom."
"I'll train with Dad and save the Earth, but I won't neglect my studies either. Mom works so hard every day. I feel bad for you too."
"Now that we have money, I'll ask Aunt Bulma to build a private access road to our house. Then you can drive straight there when you go grocery shopping. It'll be much more convenient, and you won't have to walk back and forth every day."
Chi-Chi looked down at her son.
She reached out and ruffled Son Gohan's hair.
"Our Gohan has really grown up. You know how to care about your mother now."
Then she turned to Son Goku and rolled her eyes at him irritably.
"Look at how sensible Gohan is. You're his father, yet you're not even as considerate as your son."
Son Goku smiled sheepishly and scratched the back of his head, wisely choosing to keep quiet.
Chi-Chi took a deep breath, crouched down, and placed both hands on Son Gohan's shoulders.
"Fine, Gohan. We'll do as you say. But let's make this clear—you can't let it interfere with your studies, understand?"
"Don't worry, Mom. I definitely won't!" Son Gohan promised at once, his expression earnest.
Chi-Chi stood up, sighed, then smiled again before turning back toward the kitchen to continue tidying up.
Son Gohan turned and exchanged a look with Son Goku.
"Dad, starting tomorrow, we'll train in the back mountain. We'll invite Uncle Piccolo too."
Son Goku's eyes lit up, and he nodded.
"Alright."
"I'm heading out for a bit. I'll be back soon."
After saying that, a white aura suddenly erupted around Son Gohan. He shot into the sky, becoming a streak of light as he flew toward Korin Tower.
The sky had not yet darkened.
Above Mount Paozu, a white streak of light tore through the clouds.
