Early on a weekend morning, the sky had only just begun to brighten.
Huo Chen left Shrek Academy alone, without alerting anyone.
He left Huo Yuhao a note that simply said, "I'm going out to take care of something. I'll be back in two or three days." He also asked the Ice Empress and Snow Empress to look after Yuhao before quietly leaving the city.
He did not fly. Instead, he walked out through Shrek City's southern gate and headed northeast along a secluded official road.
After walking roughly ten li, he turned into a dense forest. Only after confirming that no one was nearby did he leap into the air and race northward through the sky.
His destination was the outskirts of the Star Dou Great Forest.
But the target of this journey was neither soul beasts nor herbs. It was a person—or rather, a remnant soul.
When the Reincarnation divine trial had reflected the threads of fate, Huo Chen had seen an extremely crucial side branch: somewhere on the outskirts of the Star Dou Great Forest, an undead mage from another world lay dormant.
In life, he had been one of that world's greatest powerhouses, hailed as the "Undead Demigod." Yet he had fallen because of a betrayal, leaving behind only a wisp of remnant soul attached to a bone ring, where it had slumbered beneath a patch of land on the Douluo Continent for ten thousand years.
In the original course of fate, Huo Yuhao would accidentally discover him several years later. He would become Huo Yuhao's second teacher, impart undead magic to him, and ultimately burn away his own soul to save Huo Yuhao, vanishing completely between heaven and earth.
His name was Electrolux.
"In this life, you won't disappear again," Huo Chen murmured. He accelerated through the air, speeding toward the Star Dou Great Forest.
Two hours later, he landed in a dense forest on the outskirts of the Star Dou Great Forest.
The trees here were even thicker than those at the forest's edge. Their canopies blotted out the sky and completely blocked the sunlight. The woods were dim, and the air was thick with the damp scent of soil and rotting leaves.
After landing, Huo Chen closed his eyes and spread out his spiritual power.
The Eye of Destiny slowly opened between his brows, its golden radiance sweeping through the forest.
He saw it.
Beneath a thousand-year-old banyan tree roughly three li away lay an incredibly faint soul fluctuation. It belonged neither to a living person nor a soul beast, but to an exceptionally unique form of energy caught between life and death.
He quickly headed in that direction.
The ancient banyan was enormous, its canopy covering a radius of several dozen zhang. Its gnarled roots lay exposed above the ground like enormous winding pythons.
Huo Chen stopped beneath the tree, crouched down, and brushed aside the layer of humus to reveal the soil underneath.
He extended his right hand and pressed his palm against the ground. The pattern of the Reincarnation Other Shore Flower emerged on the back of his hand.
"Found it."
A gentle tremor of his soul power split the earth open, and an ancient bone ring floated out from the soil.
The entire ring was grayish-white, its surface covered in fine cracks, as though it could shatter at any moment. A complex rune array was engraved upon its face, though it had been worn down so badly that its original lines were nearly impossible to make out.
The whole ring gave off a faint aura of deathly stillness. It was not evil, but rather a pure, ancient power of death.
Huo Chen carefully picked up the bone ring and gently rubbed the rune on its face with his fingertips.
"Senior Electrolux," he said. His voice was not loud, yet it carried a force that pierced the soul. "I know you're there. Please come out and meet me."
Silence lingered for a moment.
Then a faint ghostly blue glow lit up on the bone ring, and an illusory figure slowly drifted out of it, floating in midair.
It was the phantom of an old man.
He was tall and dressed in a tattered robe. His beard and hair were entirely white, and his face was withered, yet his eyes were exceptionally bright. They were eyes that had weathered countless hardships and seen through life and death.
His body was translucent, clearly nothing more than a wisp of remnant soul. But when his gaze fell upon Huo Chen, it carried scrutiny and wariness.
"Human." The old man's voice was hoarse and low, as if it came from somewhere far away.
"You can sense my existence and even locate my hiding place so precisely. You are no ordinary person."
"This junior is Huo Chen." Huo Chen cupped his hands in greeting. He did not reveal his identity as the inheritor of the Reincarnation God King, merely stating his name. "I came today for your sake, Senior."
Electrolux's phantom swayed slightly, and a glimmer of interest flashed through his aged eyes. "You came looking for me? You know who I am?"
"The Undead Demigod, Electrolux." Huo Chen met his gaze directly.
"You came from another world. In life, you stood at the pinnacle of that world, but you fell due to a betrayal. A wisp of your remnant soul attached itself to this bone ring and slumbered beneath this land for ten thousand years."
Electrolux's phantom jolted violently.
He stared at Huo Chen for a long time. Shock and vigilance filled his aged eyes, but in the end, every emotion turned into a long sigh.
"Ten thousand years." His voice was hoarse. "I thought no one in this world would ever know my name again. Young man, how do you know of me?"
"I once underwent a divine trial. During it, my divine consciousness reflected upon the countless future paths of this world."
Huo Chen replied calmly, "Among those innumerable threads of fate, I saw your existence."
Electrolux fell silent for a moment, his gaze growing profound. "A divine trial... For you to reflect the paths of fate, the level of divine trial you encountered must have been extraordinarily high. May I ask which deity's lineage you inherited?"
Huo Chen considered it, then extended his right hand.
A bewitching crimson flower bloomed in his palm: the Reincarnation Other Shore Flower.
As it blossomed, a profound and mysterious aura spread outward. It was the power of laws that transcended life and death and ran through karma itself, as though grasping this flower meant grasping the axis of reincarnation for all things in the world.
Electrolux's gaze fell upon the flower, and his pupils contracted slightly.
He felt it.
He was no stranger to the nature of that power. In his homeland, he had personally seen the Eternal and Creation God Throne. It was a relic left behind by the God of Creation, containing the most primordial power of creation in the universe.
Although the aura emitted by the flower before him manifested differently, the oppressive sensation of its level was identical to that of the God Throne.
"...Power on the level of a God of Creation." He spoke softly, a trace of gravity in his voice. "Though I do not know the deity you mentioned, I can sense that the power you wield exists on the same level as the God of Creation in my plane."
He raised his head, and a hint of respect appeared in his gaze toward Huo Chen. "Young man, being able to obtain an inheritance of this level is truly your fortune."
"You overpraise me, Senior." Huo Chen put away the Reincarnation Other Shore Flower, his tone turning serious. "Senior, I only want to ask you one thing. Do you want to be resurrected?"
The air seemed to freeze.
Electrolux's phantom jolted violently. For the first time, intense emotion appeared in those eyes that had remained tranquil for ten thousand years.
"What did you say?"
"I said that I can help resurrect you." Huo Chen repeated himself. "I can reshape your body, reunite your soul, and allow you to return to the world in a complete form."
Electrolux fell silent.
He stared at Huo Chen for a long time. Shock, suspicion, and vigilance filled his aged eyes, but in the end, all those emotions turned into a long sigh.
"Young man, do you know what you are saying?" His voice was hoarse. "I am but a wisp of a remnant soul, slumbering beneath this land for ten thousand years. My body has long turned to dust, and only this lingering fragment remains of my soul. Resurrection is something only gods can accomplish."
"I am only half a step away from godhood." Huo Chen spoke calmly as he released his aura.
Nine red soul rings rose from beneath his feet, revolving slowly around him. The pressure of a level ninety-nine Limit Douluo was as heavy as a mountain, making the surrounding trees creak under the unbearable strain.
Electrolux's phantom trembled again.
"...A level ninety-nine demigod." There was a trace of emotion in his voice. "No wonder you dared say such a thing."
"Senior, I do not have much time. I will keep this brief."
Huo Chen withdrew his soul rings, his tone solemn. "I know you came from another world. I know that in life, you were an undead demigod of that world, and that you fell because of betrayal. I also know that if you remain as a remnant soul within this bone ring, in at most a few more decades, you will completely dissipate."
He paused, looking directly into Electrolux's eyes. "But I need you to live—not for my sake, but for my nephew's. He will face many difficult battles in the future and needs an experienced mentor like you to guide him. And I can give you a second life."
Electrolux was silent for a long time.
At last, he slowly spoke. "What do you need me to do?"
"Be my nephew's teacher," Huo Chen said. "Teach him everything you know—undead magic, the laws of the soul, combat experience, wisdom in life. I do not need you to swear loyalty to me, nor do I need you to pay any price. You only need to live, and then teach him well."
"That simple?"
"That simple."
Electrolux stared at him for a long while, then suddenly smiled. It was a smile of relief.
"Alright. I accept."
Huo Chen nodded and said no more. He extended his right hand, palm upward, and the Reincarnation Other Shore Flower bloomed in his hand.
Then, he released his ninth soul ring.
Ninth Soul Skill: Reincarnation Rebirth, Undead Revival.
Blood-red light surged from the soul ring and gathered upon the petals of the Reincarnation Other Shore Flower. The entire blossom began to radiate a dazzling brilliance, crimson and gold intertwining as though connecting the boundary between life and death.
A silver ring on Huo Chen's left hand lit up.
With a thought, several items flew out of the ring and floated in midair.
A fist-sized piece of crystalline blood-red jade—Ten-Thousand-Year Blood Marrow Essence. It contained immense life energy and could serve as the foundation for a physical body.
A golden bone segment—an ancient dragon bone, taken from a fallen draconic beast. It was incomparably hard and could serve as the framework for the skeleton.
A drop of emerald-green liquid—the essence from the springhead of the Fountain of Life. It contained pure vitality and could awaken the body's vitality.
There was also a silver crystal the size of a pigeon's egg—Void Silverstone, a rare material used in crafting high-level soul tools that could be used to construct a network of meridians.
"Senior, please relax your mind and do not resist," Huo Chen said. "The process ahead may be somewhat painful, but please trust me."
Electrolux's phantom floated in the air and nodded.
Huo Chen took a deep breath and formed hand seals.
The Reincarnation Other Shore Flower's light abruptly intensified, enveloping Electrolux's remnant soul, the Ten-Thousand-Year Blood Marrow Essence, the ancient dragon bone, the Fountain of Life essence, and the Void Silverstone.
The process of reshaping a body began.
Electrolux's remnant soul was first drawn into the Blood Marrow Essence, merging with the life energy within it. The Blood Marrow Essence began to glow, and countless fine vein-like patterns emerged across its surface, as if something were growing inside.
Next, the ancient dragon bone shattered into countless fragments and merged into the Blood Marrow Essence, forming the rudimentary shape of a skeleton. The Fountain of Life essence dripped onto the Blood Marrow Essence like spring rain nourishing all things, stirring forth vigorous vitality. The Void Silverstone melted into a thread of silver liquid and seeped inside, constructing a fine network of meridians.
Fine beads of sweat appeared on Huo Chen's forehead.
Reshaping a body was a god-level technique. Even as a demigod, it was immensely taxing for him to perform. The light of the Reincarnation Other Shore Flower began to tremble faintly, but he gritted his teeth and steadied the power in his hands.
"Only the final step remains," he murmured. "Returning the soul to its place."
He guided Electrolux's soul fragments into that newborn body, thread by thread. It was an exceedingly delicate process; the slightest mistake could inflict irreversible damage upon the soul.
Time passed second by second.
After an unknown amount of time, the light of the Reincarnation Other Shore Flower finally began to slowly fade.
The glowing mass floating in midair dispersed, revealing a complete human body.
It was an elderly man who looked to be in his sixties. He was tall and lean-faced, with long silver-white hair draped over his shoulders.
He wore a white robe condensed from the power of reincarnation. His eyes were closed, his breathing steady, as though he were asleep.
Then, he opened his eyes.
They were silver eyes, deep and bright, as if they contained a sea of stars.
He slowly raised his hands and stared at his long fingers and smooth palms. His eyes gradually reddened.
"...Ten thousand years." His voice was hoarse and trembling slightly. "I finally... feel alive again."
He lifted his head to look at Huo Chen, his gaze full of gratitude, shock, and a trace of disbelief.
"Young man, you did it." His voice was still hoarse, but far stronger than before. "You resurrected someone who had been dead for ten thousand years."
"It wasn't me." Huo Chen wiped the sweat from his forehead and smiled. "It was the Law of Reincarnation. I was merely a guide."
Electrolux rose from the ground and stretched his limbs. His newly formed body was still somewhat stiff, but he could already move normally. He lowered his head to look at his hands, then clenched his fists, feeling the soul power flowing through his body. Though it was far from his peak in life, it had already reached the level of a Titled Douluo.
"This body..." He sounded surprised. "What materials did you use? I can feel that this body possesses tremendous potential."
"Ten-thousand-year Blood Marrow Essence as its foundation, ancient dragon bones as its frame, essence of the Spring of Life to awaken its vitality, and Void Silverstone to construct its meridians," Huo Chen answered truthfully. "Your cultivation is currently around Rank 92, but with this body's potential, returning to the peak you possessed in life is only a matter of time."
Electrolux fell silent for a moment, then solemnly bowed to Huo Chen.
"Thank you."
"You don't need to thank me." Huo Chen stepped aside to avoid the bow. "I told you before—I saved you so that you could become my nephew's teacher. This is a deal, not charity."
Electrolux straightened and looked at Huo Chen, a smile appearing at the corner of his lips. "Rest assured. In all my life, I have valued my promises most highly. Since I agreed to this, I will give it my all."
"Good." Huo Chen nodded. "Let's go. Come back to Shrek Academy with me first. I'll arrange a place for you to stay, and then I'll let you meet them."
The two leaped into the air and flew toward Shrek Academy.
Sunlight spilled across the vast, dense forest, gilding everything in a layer of golden radiance.
Behind them, beneath that ancient thousand-year banyan tree, only an empty pit remained, along with shattered fragments of a bone ring scattered across the ground.
