"Begin." The girl gave the order calmly. Her brother beside her consciously took a step back, and the doctor picked up a mask and carefully placed it over her face.

The anesthetic gas seeped out. At last, everything before her blurred, and the girl closed her heavy eyes.

"Brother, Momonga... will we ever meet again?"

"I don't want to die. I'm... so scared."

With her consciousness fading, the girl murmured in a voice too faint to hear. A tear slowly slid from the corner of her eye.

Before she knew it, seven years had flown by. Yet no miracle came. The girl's life force slowly and irreversibly ebbed away inside the cryogenic chamber. In the end, the miracle drug capable of curing Type II Abnormal Brain Evolution Syndrome still never appeared.

"Let her go. This is the last mercy we can show her." The doctor's final suggestion utterly crushed the man's remaining hope. In the end, he sat beside the girl's bed and kept vigil until midnight.

Then, with his own hands, he cut off the power to both the machines sustaining her life and the YGGDRASIL game servers.

He had taken over its operation and kept that outdated RPG alive for so many years because of his promise to her. Now, it had finally lost all meaning.

"What... is going on?" Standing in the middle of a vast forest, the girl murmured softly. She could not comprehend the situation at all.

Where was this? Why was she here? More importantly, why was she still alive?

She had clearly felt the pain of the respirator being shut off. She had clearly accepted the fact that she was dead. So why—why was she still alive now?

"I'm alive. I'm still..." Tears poured out uncontrollably. The remnants of her humanity made her weak with emotion as she wept bitterly.

No way... Thinking that, she stretched out a hand.

"Water Creation." It was as if someone deep within her soul told her that she could do this, and reality proved as dreamlike as she had expected. A stream of water appeared out of thin air.

"Stop." She ceased supplying magic power, and the water vanished, leaving only a puddle on the ground.

Using the reflection on the water's surface, she finally saw what she looked like.

Long, smooth pale-blue hair; an exquisite face that possessed both demonic allure and innocent charm; elegant, beautiful curved horns; and a graceful, slender dragon tail.
