Perhaps because of the emotional void in her real life, she had become so obsessed with online games, placing her feelings in the game and the people she played with. Back then, she had experienced a sense of fulfillment she had never known before. Unfortunately, her body had eventually deteriorated to the point where she could no longer play.
She had thought that was where her life would end, that everything was over.
Yet in this world, she had obtained what she had once dreamed of.
I love my children. As she thought this, Aya felt a surge of joy from the bottom of her heart.
"Mother?"
She suddenly heard one of her children's confused voices.
"Huh? How strange... why?" She felt droplets sliding down her cheeks. Raising a hand to wipe them away, she found her eyes full of tears.
How strange. Why am I crying?
And... I love my children.
She was clearly happy.
But whenever she thought of those words, why...?
Her heart hurt so much.
Meanwhile
In a forest beside E-Rantel Fortress City in the Re-Estize Kingdom, a group of uninvited guests was on the move.
There were twelve of them in total, all wearing various sets of full gear.
Among the twelve, one man at the front of the group possessed an overwhelming presence.
Calling him a man was somewhat questionable. He looked extremely androgynous; his masculine equipment suggested that he was male, yet his long hair, nearly touching the ground, made one doubt it.
He looked both male and female, or perhaps neither. He was not tall, and his face looked very young. Perhaps he was still growing, which made it even harder to tell.
Putting aside the troubling question of his gender, he was strong. Anyone hostile to him could tell that at a glance.
However, his opponents this time were not human.
Wielding a shabby spear that looked utterly out of place beside the rest of his equipment, he pierced the Shadow Wolves and bats before him one by one. He was the only one fighting; the others were either resting or maintaining defensive stances.
They had confidence that this man could deal with them easily.
"Why are there Shadow Wolves here?" a burly man asked.
"This place does not have an environment where Shadow Wolves could appear," the man answered his companion's question.
"If I'm not mistaken, they are the familiars of something. A powerful demon, perhaps, or a vampire."
Though the Shadow Wolves had been easily defeated by the man, that did not mean they were weak. On the contrary, they were strong enough that he had needed to act personally to ensure success.
What kind of being could command such a large number of Shadow Wolves as familiars? Was it nearby? Would it attack them because of this? No one could say for certain.
"Lord Kaire, please be prepared. Though it was meant for subduing the Destroyer Dragon King, depending on the situation, we may have to use it early."
Misfortunes never came alone. That was what everyone thought. No one could be certain what sort of monster they would face next, but at that moment, the situation changed once again.
In the distance, a pillar of light shot into the sky, stabbing straight up from the earth. For an instant, it was as though a sun had fallen to the ground, illuminating nearly the entire forest as brightly as day.
