Impure Shock Shield—Shalltear used her special skill once more.
Then, right where the knight had stepped back, another explosion erupted.
[Maximize Magic: Force Explosion] (Maximize Magic: Force Explosion) Shalltear activated the spell, then waved her hand again.
[Maximize Magic: Vermilion Nova] (Maximize Magic: Vermilion Nova)
First came an instantaneous blast, followed by vermilion flames engulfing the knight's entire body—or that was how it should have gone.
As if a gust of wind had wrapped around her feet, Arthur's already dazzling speed suddenly increased again, and she effortlessly slipped out of the spell's range.
No matter how powerful a spell was, it was useless if it did not hit.
Gritting her teeth, Shalltear raised the Pipette Lance.
Judging that magic would have difficulty breaking through, she shifted her focus back to physical combat.
The Pipette Lance in Shalltear's hands was a divine-class item. Beyond its basic attributes, it possessed the special ability to restore its wielder's stamina in proportion to the damage dealt.
In a prolonged battle, the advantage of this trait would only grow more pronounced, gradually shifting the balance of victory as the fight dragged on.
But there was one prerequisite: she had to be able to deal effective damage.
Arthur swept out with the spear in her hand. In an instant, light flashed along its shaft, as though tracing the edge of a solar corona.
Shalltear stepped back, the spear tip brushing past the tip of her nose. Then the Pipette Lance swept upward from below. At the same time, a pool of blood appeared in midair, and several blood-red blades stabbed toward Arthur!
The knight raised her left foot and stepped on the shaft of the Pipette Lance, swung her silver spear to shatter the blood blades, then actually used her left foot as a pivot and kicked upward with her right!
Her entire body spun with her long leg, as if wielding a silver battle-axe, cleaving heavily toward Shalltear's cheek!
Shalltear raised an arm to block. The heavy impact numbed her entire arm. With an angry roar, she viciously lifted her spear and sent Arthur flying into the air.
As though she had anticipated this all along, the knight effortlessly maintained her balance in midair while decisively raising her right foot again!
A gravity-laden strike from above, splitting mountains with a single blow!
Use your spear properly, damn it! Shalltear roared inwardly as she activated Impure Shock Shield again.
She was not blasted very far by the shockwave, but it was the ideal distance for spear combat. Upon landing, Arthur swiftly adjusted her stance.
Then, as though silver-white radiance were raining down, the knight swung her spear in a dense barrage of thrusts!
Shalltear's spear was no less fierce. Scarlet ripples ignited along the Pipette Lance, and a string of sparks flashed where the spear shafts collided!
Silver-white and purplish-red figures raced across the wilderness like two bolts of lightning—charging, colliding, separating, then colliding again.
The battle moved at a blistering pace. Every clash was close-quarters combat, yet they separated at the first touch. The explosive clangs of metal rang out one after another, sparks flew in every direction, and waves of air spread outward again and again.
Their speed had long surpassed the limits of human perception. Whether moving or attacking, the eye could only catch the afterimages left behind them before thunderous detonations erupted.
Intermixed with the unleashed surges of magic power, released almost casually, were even wide-area destructive spells that bombarded the battlefield.
It was practically a duel between valkyries from myth.
Unable to inflict enough damage to truly change the course of the battle, Shalltear gritted her teeth. After dozens of clashes, she had realized the problem.
Every one of her attacks had been countered perfectly. If it was a thrust enhanced with magic power or bolstered by spells, Arthur would definitely dodge or block it with her weapon, while ordinary probing attacks were met with counterattacks.
