Background / History

Artoria was originally a flawed goddess born from the divinity of Rhongomyniad. After a warped world was corrected, she should have been erased with it; instead, she awakened in another world. Though capable of ruling, she rejected kingship after becoming weary of the burden and doubting whether she understood humanity. She chose to become an adventurer who would protect humanity from the shadows instead. 723

She was recruited by Queen Draudillon Oriculus and undertook missions connected to the Dragon Kingdom. By the time she arrived in Kaelmais City, she was an adamantite-ranked adventurer known publicly as Artoria Pendragon. 189 192 287

Artoria's commitment to humanity was demonstrated when she confronted a meteor rather than evade it, protecting nearby adventurers despite being capable of saving herself. Aya recognized this compassion and later used it to pressure her during their conflict. 216

Believing Tiamat to be a Beast that threatened humanity, Artoria fought Aya in a prolonged battle. She summoned her knights, exhausted her mana through the Holy Lance's full power, and ultimately died after Aya turned the battle at close range. Because of their prior wager, Aya resurrected her rather than allowing her to remain dead. 224 228 230 237

Aya subsequently altered Artoria's race and class, turning her into a level-100 Black Knight follower. The transformation made Artoria more direct, proactive, and openly affectionate toward Aya, while retaining an unusual ability to resist commands she interprets as contrary to Aya's true wishes. 252 261

In the altered worldline, Artoria meets Aya while using the name Rhongomyniad. After learning of Aya's future claim to be her mother and seeing a vision of the catastrophe caused by killing her, Artoria accepts Aya's account and becomes her protector. 725 726 727 744

Appearance

Artoria is an imposing female knight usually concealed beneath luxurious full-body armor and a helmet. When unhelmeted, she has sculpted, mature features, pale golden hair, and brilliant yellow-green eyes. 190 436 728

  • Frequently wears silver or full-body knight armor and carries a long Holy Lance. 724 761
  • Her face is described as exquisitely sculpted and usually reserved in expression. 190
  • Has pale golden hair that moves freely when she fights without her helmet. 436
  • Her eyes can emit yellow-green divine light when she invokes her goddess-like perception. 738
  • Beneath her armor, she wears a sky-blue formal battle dress prepared by Merlin. 731

Personality

Before her modification, Artoria was restrained, dutiful, and intensely protective of humanity. She possessed the resolve to face overwhelming danger alone, but her decision to become an adventurer also stemmed from exhaustion and doubt over her former role as king. 216 723

Her willpower is exceptional. Even after defeat, resurrection, imprisonment, and severe weakening, she refuses to beg for mercy or surrender her convictions easily. Aya openly acknowledges that Artoria's mental resilience exceeds her expectations. 238 240 242 243

After becoming a Black Knight, Artoria becomes more candid about her desires, more assertive with Aya, and more willing to pursue personal gain. Her combat mentality also changes: she no longer considers formal chivalry more important than victory and will provoke, ambush, or exploit weaknesses when necessary. 253 261 438 439

Despite these changes, she remains protective of Aya and retains a strong preference for settling her rivalry with Shalltear through a fair one-on-one fight. 761

Abilities & Skills

Holy Lance and World-Class Item Power

Artoria's spear is identified as a World-Class Item, comparable in significance to a leaf from YGGDRASIL's World Tree. It is the foundation of her greatest destructive power. 209

  • Can unleash large-scale annihilating attacks that devastate the surrounding landscape. 228 229
  • Its full-power activation imposes a severe mana burden; after summoning her knights, Artoria can only sustain one more complete activation. 228
  • Allows her to threaten opponents who would otherwise overwhelm her summoned forces. 221 228
  • Artoria uses the lance effectively in both aerial and close-quarters combat. 437 440

Mana Burst and Physical Combat

Artoria is an elite close-combat warrior whose speed, reach, and physical technique are often decisive against similarly powerful enemies.

  • [Mana Burst] explosively increases her speed, allowing her to close distance beyond her normal limits. 222
  • [Sanctuary of Strength] enhances her physical power, enabling her to break Shalltear's restraint. 440
  • Uses kicks, knees, and long limbs alongside her lance; her superior reach gives her an advantage over Shalltear. 439
  • Defeated Shalltear in close combat by denying her opportunities to retreat into magic-based fighting. 780

Knight Summoning

Artoria can summon eleven puppet knights, including members associated with the Knights of the Round Table.

  • The summoned knights can form a defensive line against high-level magical beasts. 226
  • One knight uses a harp to heal Artoria's wounds. 224
  • Her strongest summoned knight can independently attempt a direct strike on an enemy commander. 226
  • Summoning the entire group places an enormous strain on her mana reserves. 228

Magic Resistance and Combat Magic

Artoria possesses exceptionally high magic resistance and retains several offensive techniques beyond pure weapon combat.

  • Resisted the paralysis effect of Aya's eighth-tier [Thunder Spear]. 219
  • Took limited damage from Shalltear's [Maximize Magic: Vermilion Nova] and other magical attacks. 437 438
  • Uses [Triple Super Heavy Slash], a highly destructive skill that causes fatigue to accumulate more quickly. 213
  • Uses [Maximize Magic: Force Explosion] and Invisible Air during combat with Shalltear. 437

Divine Perception

As a divine-spirit-class existence, Artoria possesses instinctive and prophetic perception.

  • Her Blessing of Eternity can show her catastrophic outcomes tied to immediate choices, including the consequences of killing Aya. 727
  • Her instinct allows her to sense when Aya is concealing the truth, even when Aya's outward behavior does not change. 759
  • Can perceive the flow of magical energy within her own body through the authority of the Goddess of the End. 738

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Holy Lance — Artoria's primary weapon and a World-Class Item with immense area-of-effect destructive capability. 209 228
  • Full-body armor and helmet — Her usual knightly equipment; the helmet often conceals both her identity and gender. 190 724
  • Warhorse — Used to increase her movement speed during battle. 219
  • Magically formed formal dress — Clothing generated from her magical energy beneath her armor. 731 739

Relationships

  • Aya / Tiamat — Initially opponents, with Artoria seeking to kill her as a Beast. Aya defeats, resurrects, and modifies Artoria into her follower; their relationship later develops into a protective mother-daughter bond. 217 237 252 761
  • Aisha — Hires Artoria as a guard by offering a commission sufficient to raise the quest to mithril rank. Their meeting redirects Artoria toward Aya. 722 723
  • Shalltear Bloodfallen — Rival combatant. Artoria considers their prior clashes unresolved and seeks to defeat Shalltear fairly in a one-on-one battle. 436 761 780
  • Lilith — Artoria previously injured Lilith during a Dragon Kingdom assignment. Lilith's influence contributes to Artoria's later Black Knight personality. 209 253 261
  • Queen Draudillon Oriculus — Recruited Artoria for the assignment that brought her to Maplemoon Territory. 192 287
  • Camellia and Preya — Fellow daughters within Aya's family; Artoria's place in the family hierarchy is ambiguous because she is the newest transformed daughter but the eldest by age. 261 283
