Kaelmais City of the Dragon Kingdom stood at a vital border, facing the Beastman Kingdom across the Moonshade Great Forest. With two massive city walls, it was a genuine fortress city.
At the same time, it was the capital of the borderland Maplemoon Territory and the commercial hub of southern Dragon Kingdom—a massive composite metropolis that combined military, political, and economic functions.
The two walls divided the entire city into two areas. The smaller inner district housed the central administrative quarter and the commercial core, as well as the city's granaries.
The outer district, several times larger than the inner one, was further divided into inner and outer sections. The inner section was the main residential area for citizens, while the outer section was a defensive zone for troops and military equipment.
In fact, most other fortress cities in the Dragon Kingdom had three layers of walls. Kaelmais City, however, had once merely been a small second-line city with a single wall. As it expanded through the development of Moonshade Forest and was elevated to the status of a capital, a proposal had been made to build a third wall. Yet it had been shelved due to budgetary concerns and other issues.
