"I'm very sorry, but as you said, only mithril-rank adventurers or above can take mithril-rank jobs," the receptionist said seriously.
"I've decided to take that quest. Of course, if there are any more difficult ones, those would be fine too."
"If the job fails, not only you and your companions, but many others will die because of it."
Aya understood perfectly well that the receptionist's attitude was entirely proper. Right now, though, she was playing the part of a spoiled customer making an unreasonable demand.
Well, she was quite used to it. In her previous life, Aya had never been a reasonable person, whether in-game or in reality.
"I didn't come here to do those boring jobs. To be honest, even that quest would be laughably easy for me." Aya made no effort to lower her voice. Clearly, everyone in the hall had turned their attention toward her.
"Let's put it this way—I can use third-tier magic." Even as Aya spoke, her mind continued calculating.
Back in the game era, no one evaluated mages by the tier of magic they could use. The reason was simple: everyone could use tenth-tier magic and super-tier magic, so tiers were meaningless.
But things were different here. The tier of magic was the face of a mage's rank, proof of their strength.
At first, she had planned to say fifth-tier, but that might have been too high. Second-tier was obviously too low. After wavering between third-tier and fourth-tier, she chose third-tier, because the class she had registered was ranger.
Sure enough, the air immediately grew restless. This proved that this level of magic was enough to cause a stir. The people around her looked at Aya with obvious doubt, hesitation, and a mixture of complicated emotions.
"Third-tier? That makes her an incredibly powerful mage!"
