First Contact with Humans

"Grandpa, something ahead seems to be flashing. Could it be someone's home? Maybe if we go over there now, we'll be saved!"

The speaker was a little human girl. Judging by her clothes, she clearly did not look like a child from a poor family, yet for some reason, both she and the old man beside her were dressed in rags and covered in grime.

For such a pair to suddenly appear in the middle of this vast desert really did seem rather out of place.

"Girl! Don't think too highly of everyone else. Have you forgotten those desert bandits we ran into a few days ago? What if that's their nest up ahead? Wouldn't going over there now be like walking into a tiger's jaws?"

Compared to the inexperienced little girl, the old man was clearly much more cautious. She had originally been the daughter of a wealthy family. Since her family did business along the Silk Road, she had ended up in this great desert.

But unfortunately, their caravan had been attacked, and only the grandfather and granddaughter had escaped. Thus, despite suffering from hunger and cold along the way, the two of them had remained extremely careful.

Perhaps because the sky was growing dark, the navigation lights on Starscream's body flashed at regular intervals, causing the two to mistake them for a distant campfire. Although they kept talking about the danger, their feet would not listen, and they still slowly approached.

Ding-dong. The host's surveillance radar has detected intelligent life on this planet. Their images are now being transmitted to your monitor. Threat assessment: low. No weapon defense is required.

As the grandfather and granddaughter slowly approached, Starscream's Ever-Changing Steel System immediately detected them first.

What was going on? Humans? Why did that word sound so familiar to me?

For some reason, when the word "humans" and their images appeared in Starscream's central processor, his thought circuits actually suffered a brief intermittent short circuit. But he quickly recovered. Perhaps it was due to his injuries this time.

Maybe this planet's civilization level was simply too low. They had not even developed the most basic firearms and relied almost entirely on cold weapons for all kinds of conflicts.

Even though Starscream was currently undergoing major repairs, human armies would be incapable of affecting him, much less this pair of unarmed ordinary people before him.

A few minutes later, the pitiful grandfather and granddaughter seemed to finally see what was in front of them. The old man immediately dropped to his knees in fright and repeatedly kowtowed to Starscream, muttering as he did so.

"I do not know which immortal is resting here. This old man truly failed to recognize greatness. Please, great immortal, do not blame us!"

Well, Starscream currently looked like a fighter jet, but how could the people of this world have ever seen such a machine? Combined with that blinking signal light, it instantly stunned the grandfather and granddaughter. They thought they had encountered some desert deity or demon, which was why they were worshipping him so reverently.

"What are those two babbling about? Great System, do you have some kind of language translator? At least let me know what they're doing!"

In Starscream's memory bank, this seemed to be the first time he had ever come into such close contact with creatures like these. Judging by their movements and expressions, they seemed to be afraid of something. Didn't they think his sleek body was pretty handsome?

"I can try to access their language system, but I advise the host not to communicate with them lightly. Otherwise, your actions may interfere with the development of this planet and its civilization. That would violate interstellar law!"

Well, the Ever-Changing Steel System seemed quite useful after all, though it was also rather rigid and rule-bound. Starscream's true identity was the air force commander of the Decepticons, and wasn't Megatron, the Decepticon leader, the first on Cybertron to break the rules of the universe?

Perhaps because Starscream showed no reaction, after worshipping him several times, the grandfather and granddaughter began staring at each other again, looking rather comical.

"Grandpa, I think this great being might be asleep. How about... how about we leave before he wakes up? If something happens later, I'm afraid I really won't be able to escape!"

"Yes, yes, yes! This great being is clearly sparing us. He must be the guardian deity of the desert. We're truly lucky today!"

Well, Godzilla only seemed indifferent because he had no common language with ordinary humans like them, but that did not mean he did not know what they were saying.

Host, more than a dozen humans have appeared within our radar range. They are all carrying primitive weapons, so the threat assessment is medium. Would you like to activate temporary weapon systems?

Well, this was quite interesting! Starscream had been lying here for nearly half a month. Aside from seeing a few desert scorpions, he had not encountered any other living creatures. Yet tonight, he had unexpectedly seen humans from this planet, and they were appearing in one group after another. What was going on?

"Keep the weapons in silent mode, but set them so I can use them at any time. I want to know what these interesting humans plan to do next."

Although the humans on this planet all looked more or less alike on the surface, judging from their adrenaline levels and behavioral patterns, the grandfather and granddaughter who had arrived before Starscream first were clearly different from the group approaching from afar.

Since the situation was unclear, Starscream decided to wait and observe. At the very least, he would first figure out the behavior patterns of ordinary humans on this planet. He could treat it as a little entertainment while repairing himself.

Only a few minutes later, the two people who had originally fled from Starscream's side came desperately running back, as though they had encountered something terrifying.

"Help! Help! Grandpa, Grandpa!"

It turned out that the second group was none other than the bandits who had previously ambushed the caravan. They had followed the grandfather and granddaughter all the way, intending to eliminate them completely. A knife was already stuck in the old man's back, while the little girl seemed to be unharmed.
