Finally!
Li Wei felt a surge of joy in his heart. After spending about a week, he had finally completed the first stage of the Path of the Knight.
Wait... did the system just mention a class change?
He glanced at Don Quixote, who was muttering some incantation nearby, and with a thought, opened his quest panel.
Sure enough, two completely different knightly paths had popped up on the system interface:
[Class Change Triggered!!!]
[Knight Squire Li Wei, you have met all the requirements to become a knight. You possess excellent physical fitness and the virtues a knight should have. Now, it is time for you to choose your class.]
[Path Option 1: Lord Knight]
[As a Lord Knight, you will no longer receive attribute bonuses; instead, you will receive greater rewards in gold coins. You will possess your own territory and lead your subjects to a life of abundance. Class Change Reward: 100 gold coins, unlock the Lord skill tree.]
[Path Option 2: Hero Knight]
[As a Hero Knight, you will no longer receive gold coin rewards; instead, you will receive greater attribute bonuses. You will strive to climb higher peaks and become a legend. Class Change Reward: +0.2 to all four attributes, unlock the Knight skill tree, obtain Knight: Bronze Body.]
Li Wei stood where he was, feeling a bit indecisive for a moment, unsure which path to choose.
It seemed as though both paths were roads to the heavens.
Taking the path of a lord seemed to promise a future of immense wealth, building an unrivaled commercial empire.
Taking the path of a hero seemed to push personal combat prowess to the limit, and who knew, he might truly become a superhuman among men in the future.
He decided to head back first; he would wait until he returned to the basement to calm down before making a decision.
The closer he came to the crossroads of his life, the more he needed to remain calm.
On the other side, Don Quixote's knighting ceremony had officially concluded.
"...By the order of the Duke, I now declare you released from your status as a squire," Don Quixote finished his incantation and patted Li Wei on the shoulder. "You are now a glorious knight."
"Do I still need to call you Sir Knight?" Li Wei asked, snapping back to reality and joking, "We're equals now, aren't we?"
Don Quixote paused, his sleepwalking brain seemingly contemplating this question in earnest.
"That is indeed true for now," he said, "but once we have driven away the witch together, the Duke will grant me a promotion."
"Fine, fine," Li Wei shrugged. "Can we go back now?"
Don Quixote looked at the boundary stone that had been moved to the side of the road, nodded, and the two made their way back to the basement along the path they had come.
As the sound of Don Quixote's snoring filled the basement, Li Wei made his decision:
He intended to abandon the path of the Lord Knight and instead choose the Hero Knight, pushing his personal strength to the absolute limit.
Although the path of the Lord Knight was also quite good, and it would have immediately given him 100 gold coins as startup capital.
But Li Wei firmly believed in one thing:
If my neighbor hoards grain, I hoard guns; the neighbor becomes my granary.
As long as he could truly become a superhuman—no, even a Homelander—this world would be his to command.
I have walked on thin ice my whole life, relying entirely on my own efforts! System, add the points!
After Li Wei checked carefully, reading it over a dozen times to be sure, he took a deep breath. With a thought, his consciousness slammed into the page representing [Hero Knight].
[You have chosen to class into: Hero Knight]
In an instant, the system interface dissolved into specks of light that entered his body.
A power more than twice as vast as the last time he added 0.3 attribute points poured into him in the form of light.
This time, the sensation wasn't a "warm current" or a "river."
It was a raging torrent.
It felt as if molten iron were being poured directly into his bone marrow, and like a pair of invisible giant hands were forcibly prying apart every bone, nerve, and muscle fiber in his body, crushing them, and then reforging and reassembling them with a denser, incredible material.
"Ugh..." Li Wei gritted his teeth hard. "This feels a bit different..."
He could clearly hear the "crack-crack" sounds coming from within his body, as if his bone density were constantly increasing. His spine felt like a dragon being awakened, undulating violently beneath the skin of his back; every vertebra was adjusting its position, becoming thicker and harder.
A century seemed to pass, or perhaps it was only an instant.
Li Wei slowly crawled up from the mattress. Sweat had completely soaked his body, and a faint, dark, bloody grime had even seeped out of his pores.
[Strength 1.2]--[Strength 1.4]
[Constitution 1.2]--[Constitution 1.4]
[Agility 1.2]--[Agility 1.4]
[Spirit 1.3]--[Spirit 1.5]
[Obtained Knight: Bronze Body]
[Clumsy Eloquence]--[Eloquent Speaker]
[Eloquent Speaker: Once per day, directly persuade those with weak wills; 50% chance to persuade those with firm wills.]
[Berserk] upgraded, duration extended.
[Berserk: Once per day, double the Strength, Constitution, and Agility attribute checks for 60 seconds.]
The sheer volume of system messages left Li Wei feeling dizzy. He opened his attribute panel directly:
[Name: Li Wei]
[Age: 17]
[Class: Knight: Bronze Body (Transcendent)]
[Strength: 1.4]
[Spirit: 1.5]
[Agility: 1.4]
[Constitution: 1.4]
[Skills: Eloquent Speaker, Berserk]
[Equipment: None]
Added a class, Li Wei thought to himself, but what is this Bronze Body?
With a thought, another page popped up, providing a detailed description of Bronze Body:
[Knight: Bronze Body (Transcendent): This is your first step into the transcendent. Your body is gradually evolving in an incredible direction. You now have a circle of special power around you that can be activated at will.]
[Once activated, it slightly enhances your body's resistance to impact and provides excellent defense against weapons, diseases, and plagues.]
After reading through this long list and the skill descriptions, Li Wei stood in the bathroom and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
This time, he had truly hit the jackpot.
0.8 attribute points had significantly boosted his physical fitness. It was no exaggeration to say that any single one of his current physical attributes was at the level of an international athlete or a super-soldier.
His two skills had both upgraded, likely due to the increase in his Spirit.
The persuasion skill had evolved, and the duration of [Berserk] had doubled.
However, what interested him more was the newly acquired [Bronze Body (Transcendent)].
He felt as though he were now wrapped in a layer of substance that only he could see, one that opened and closed at his will, much like a passive skill.
"Excellent defense against weapons..."
Li Wei's gaze drifted toward the manual razor on the sink.
