Background / History

Li Wei became an orphan after his parents’ business collapsed and they later died in a car accident. Burdened by debt, he left his home country for New York rather than remain unable to repay what he owed. Through government contact, he was placed under the guardianship of his distant uncle, Don Quixote Cervantes. 1

After arriving in Brooklyn, Li Wei discovered that Don Quixote’s sleepwalking knight delusions could trigger system quests. His first completed quest came when he “defeated” a trash can that Don Quixote believed was a goblin, unlocking his system panel, an attribute point, and a gold coin. 2

Li Wei quickly used system-generated gold coins to relieve his financial pressure, selling one to Leon for $500 and later selling four more for $3,000. He remained wary of strangers, including fellow Chinese immigrant Wang Qiang, and concealed the full extent of his savings and abilities. 4 13

Appearance

Li Wei is 188 cm tall, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and a striking appearance that led a wealthy woman to mistake him for a professional model. 4

  • His body changed rapidly as his attributes rose, replacing his previously thin frame with sharply defined musculature. 14
  • At Strength 1.1, he had developed pronounced pectorals, eight defined abdominal muscles, visible forearm veins, emerging lat muscles, and an inverted-triangle torso. 14
  • Later increases made his old T-shirts tight across his chest, lats, and upper arms. 28
  • His physical examination for football astonished Ms. Murphy because of his exceptional condition. 37

Personality

Li Wei is practical, financially driven, and strongly self-reliant. He refused a modeling offer when told it would not provide substantial income, and later rejected Emma’s suggestion that he depend on a wealthy woman for success. 4 40

He adapts quickly to unusual circumstances. Rather than resisting Don Quixote’s delusions, he learns to guide them safely and use the resulting quests to develop himself. He also studies his own physical changes closely, abandoning a Strength-only strategy after it made his body feel slow and uncoordinated. 33 35

Despite his calculating side, Li Wei consistently supports Don Quixote: he cooks for him, protects him during dangerous nighttime episodes, recommends him to Susan for work, and joins his expedition party. 9 28 35

Abilities & Skills

Medieval Adventurer System

Li Wei possesses a system that assigns quests, grants gold coins and free attribute points, unlocks skills, and tracks his physical development. Its baseline identifies 1.0 in each attribute as the average level of a 20-year-old adult. 2

  • Strength increases lifting and striking power. Li Wei estimated that each 0.1-point increase adds roughly 20–40 kg to his pushing and carrying capacity. 19
  • Agility improves neural response, movement speed, coordination, and body control. 14 23
  • Constitution improves stamina, oxygen efficiency, recovery, joint resilience, and physical durability. 3 20 43
  • Spirit improves memory, comprehension, sensory awareness, and the effectiveness of his persuasion skill. 9 10

Eloquent Speaker

An upgraded form of Clumsy Eloquence, Eloquent Speaker lets Li Wei influence others through speech. 22

  • Can directly persuade weak-willed targets once per day. 22
  • Has a 50% chance of persuading people with firm wills. 22
  • Its earlier form only worked reliably on greedy, weak-willed people and could not push them far beyond their own beliefs. 3 4
  • Li Wei used it to improve his gold-coin sales to Leon and to pressure Leto into paying workers’ wages. 13 31

Berserk

Berserk temporarily doubles Li Wei’s Strength, Agility, and Constitution checks. 22

  • Activates once per day for 60 seconds. 22
  • Allowed him to lift and carry a reinforced crate weighing more than 300 kg while maintaining careful control. 20
  • Enabled him to break through three defensive tackles and score during his football tryout. 38
  • Temporarily raised his physical checks to Strength 3.0, Agility 2.8, and Constitution 2.8 during a fight alongside Don Quixote. 27

Knight: Bronze Body (Transcendent)

Li Wei’s Hero Knight class grants him a Bronze Body, his first explicitly transcendent physique. 22

  • Can be activated at will as a special protective force around his body. 22
  • Enhances resistance to impacts, weapons, diseases, and plagues. 22
  • A rusty razor could leave only shallow white marks on his arm, though sharper blades or greater force could still injure him. 23

Athletic Prowess

Li Wei’s system-enhanced body makes him an exceptional athlete even without relying on performance-enhancing drugs. 47

  • Benched 250 kg after balancing his Strength, Constitution, and Agility. 43
  • Squatted 315 kg without a belt or knee sleeves. 44
  • Earned a place as the varsity team’s backup quarterback after proving himself during tryouts. 39
  • His balanced development gives him high-level strength, explosiveness, and endurance simultaneously. 50

Academic Ability

Li Wei’s Spirit improvements significantly enhance his learning speed and retention. 9 10

  • Made rapid progress studying AP Macroeconomics after his mental improvements. 12
  • Demonstrated enough knowledge in AP Macroeconomics to surprise Mrs. Mosley when joining the course midyear. 46
  • Speaks English fluently enough to treat it as a second language due to childhood immersion. 1

  • Michael — Gym partner, future classmate, and fellow AP student. Their shared training completed Li Wei’s Chivalry task, and Michael remains impressed by Li Wei’s unexplained growth. 11 12 39
  • Madame Dolores — Owner of the Upper East Side boutique where Li Wei works part-time. She rewards his work but warns him to be careful. 8 21
  • EmmaDolores boutique coworker with whom Li Wei shares a teasing, friendly rapport. She witnessed his crate-lifting feat and later encouraged him to pursue a wealthy customer. 20 40
  • Travis — Football teammate and friend who initially tried to protect Li Wei from hostile players. He later confides that he uses experimental performance-enhancing drugs to pursue football as an escape from poverty. 38 46
  • Coach Miller — Franklin K. Lane’s football coach. Initially skeptical of Li Wei, he honored his promise after Li Wei’s touchdown and made him the varsity backup quarterback. 38 39
  • Susan — Wealthy property owner whom Li Wei and Don Quixote rescued from robbers. She offered them a Brooklyn apartment opportunity and considered employing Don Quixote. 27 28
