Personality

Wei Yu initially carries herself with confidence and a degree of arrogance. As the academy's usually earliest trainee, she expects others to yield training space to her; Wang Sheng arriving before her catches her attention. 2

She is notably principled about wagers: she accepts losses without dispute, enforces the stated terms of a bet, and gives Su Youwen a Blood Replenishing Pill after Wang Sheng enters the Martial Path. 5 6 She also recognizes Wang Sheng's diligence despite his poor physique, comprehension, and background. 3 21

Though she can be blunt and teasing, Wei Yu intervenes when Wei Lingqin insults Wang Sheng and volunteers to protect him during the conflict with the Demonic Cult. 38 After witnessing Wang Sheng's concealed strength, her formerly aloof demeanor becomes markedly cautious and submissive around him. 41

Story Role / Major Arcs

Zhao Family Martial Arts Academy

Wei Yu is introduced as a senior disciple and one of the academy's most diligent trainees. Wang Sheng's habit of arriving even earlier than she does surprises her. 2 She later comments on his poor prospects, while still acknowledging that his diligence exceeds that of the other new disciples. 3

Near the end of the new disciples' two-month trial, Wei Yu makes a ten-tael wager with Fang Mingguang. She chooses Su Youwen while Fang chooses Wang Sheng; Wang Sheng's initiation creates a dispute over the terms, but Wei Yu insists that Fang has lost and collects the wager. 5 6

Bright Energy Circle

After Wang Sheng publicly reveals his Bright Energy breakthrough, Wei Yu and the other Bright Energy disciples congratulate him and begin reassessing his potential. 25 She later speaks in his defense when Wei Lingqin dismisses him as a low-born disciple with poor potential. 21

Demonic Cult Conflict

As the academy prepares to confront the Demonic Cult, Wei Yu offers Wang Sheng her protection, believing him to be an honest and hardworking junior brother who may not survive the coming battle alone. 38 During the battle at Qingfeng Inn, she is badly injured by a Dark Energy martial artist and tells Wang Sheng to flee. 40

Wei Yu later awakens in time to witness Wang Sheng kill the pursuing Dark Energy Martial Master with his concealed Dark and Bright Energy cultivation. Her knowledge of his secret leads to Wang Sheng coercing her submission; afterward, they agree on a shared explanation for the Master's death. 41
