Dumbledore paused when he saw Vaughn toss the letter straight into the fireplace. "Why not read it?"

Vaughn remained expressionless. "They shouldn't have gone after Ginny."

Dumbledore lowered his eyes. He wasn't sure whether Vaughn meant those Japanese wizards or was warning him.

But Dumbledore was actually pleased. This concern for his family let him see another side of Vaughn. At the very least, it proved that Vaughn leaned more toward "humanity" than "divinity."

Even so, Dumbledore felt rather wronged, because he really had simply happened to run into Ginny and brought the little girl back with him.

He knew Vaughn would come to the Headmaster's Office, even if only for the green tea.

Although Dumbledore had employed plenty of tactics in dealing with Vaughn, he wasn't about to use a little girl as a pawn.

Vaughn didn't care what Mahoutokoro thought. If they had approached Hermione, Ron, or even Fred, George, or Percy, he might have read the letter. But Ginny was off-limits.

Ginny had never been involved in any of these incidents, and Vaughn didn't want to drag her into them.

The sole exception had been back in Diagon Alley, when Lucius Malfoy had slipped Tom's diary into Ginny's schoolbag. But everything had been under Vaughn's control then.

Perhaps the people from Mahoutokoro meant no harm, but Vaughn was still deeply displeased by their behavior. Of course, he didn't deny that, to some extent, his thinking and beliefs from before his transmigration had influenced him, leaving him somewhat prejudiced against Mahoutokoro.

But even if it hadn't been Mahoutokoro, even if it had been another magical school, the outcome would have been the same.

"My dear boy, I think we ought to have a little more trust between us." Dumbledore sat down behind his desk.

Vaughn glanced at him
