Vaughn flatly refused. "No need. I'm not interested in tasting something someone else has already tasted."
DeSantis shrugged at that. "Fine. Back to the point—as you can see, I failed back then and paid a heavy price. But that also made me fully understand that if change is to succeed, we can no longer follow the old model."
"Heh..."
Vaughn sneered. "So the new method you came up with after abandoning the old model is to provoke conflict between me, the International Confederation of Wizards, and the Magical Congress of the United States? To start a war?"
DeSantis nodded.
"A new world must have a new order. One society clearly cannot accommodate two sets of order. Therefore, before a new order can be established, the old one must be completely eradicated!"
"Even if countless wizards die?"
"That is a necessary price. I believe it is acceptable."
DeSantis looked calm and indifferent.
Vaughn, however, was somewhat disappointed.
In truth, there had been nothing wrong with what DeSantis had said earlier. His analysis was accurate, and his conclusion that "those bound by profit scatter when the profit is gone" was especially fitting.
His sole mistake was that his goal and Vaughn's were not actually the same.
It was not hard to see from his words that what he wanted was to establish an entirely new wizarding world. For that, he could accept rivers of blood and mountains of corpses.
But Vaughn... did not want to do that.
"Just because you can accept it doesn't mean I can." Vaughn sighed inwardly and slowly rose to his feet. "If we start counting from the introduction of the International Statute of Secrecy, the old order has existed for more than three hundred years. Countless wizards have lived within its framework and grown accustomed to it.
