Pale Radiance Academy's table instantly erupted.
The remaining six students shot to their feet in unison, chairs scraping noisily as they were shoved back. One after another, they glared toward Shrek Academy's side. A few had already rolled up their sleeves, ready to charge over, only to be stopped by the middle-aged man raising a hand.
The middle-aged man helped the beaten youth up and let him lean against a chair to sit down. Then, with a dark expression, he walked forward and shouted at Dai Mubai, "Which academy are you children from?"
Light flickered in Dai Mubai's mismatched evil eyes. Unhurried, he leaned back against his chair, not even giving the middle-aged man a proper look. "Trying to ask for our background? You're not worthy."
After saying that, he sat back down in his seat, picked up his wine cup, and looked perfectly composed.
Then Guilmon ruined the moment.
"Listen up! We're students of Shrek Academy!" Guilmon held its head high, its face full of "I'm proud of my academy."
Dai Mubai, whose moment had been ruined, felt a wave of embarrassment. The corner of his mouth twitched, and even his movements froze.
The domineering air created by that line, "You're not worthy," was blasted clean away by Guilmon's shout, without even a scrap left.
"Shrek Academy?" A student from Pale Radiance Academy gave a disdainful sneer. "Never heard of it. What kind of backwater academy is that?"
"Damn it!" Ma Hongjun instantly bristled.
His martial soul came from a mutated grass chicken, so he was already sensitive to the word "chicken."
Now someone was calling his academy a "backwater chicken academy." How was that any different from insulting him directly?
Ma Hongjun immediately stopped wolfing down food, shot to his feet, slapped his chopsticks onto the table, and cursed back, red-faced and thick-necked, "Our Shrek Academy is a monster academy! You're the chicken! Everyone in your Pale Radiance Academy is a chicken!"
The teacher from Pale Radiance Academy was already livid with anger. His gaze swept over every person at the table before he squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth. "What an arrogant bunch of brats. Teach them a lesson."
The students from Pale Radiance Academy had been waiting for exactly that sentence.
Aside from the one Dai Mubai had injured, and the female student who had been sitting motionless in the corner the entire time, the other five charged out almost at the same moment.
Five people, five figures, rushed toward Shrek Academy's table with fierce momentum, as if they wanted to tear these students from a "backwater chicken academy" to pieces.
"A fight? I like it."
Xiao Wu jumped up from her seat excitedly, her ponytail whipping a clean arc through the air as she charged forward without the slightest hesitation.
Since Xiao Wu had moved, Tang San naturally would not sit idle. He slowly rose, a faint purple hue covering his eyes as his Purple Demon Eye gathered power, ready to unleash.
Although the two stood up at the same time, their thoughts were completely different.
Xiao Wu simply liked fighting. She had the sort of personality that feared the world was not chaotic enough, and to her, fighting was as natural as eating and drinking.
Tang San, however, thought a little further. He wanted to use this brawl to pull back the favorability he had lost among his classmates after fleeing in the face of battle earlier. He had to fight this one, and he had to win beautifully.
"Shuang, can I go fight too?"
Guilmon watched Tang San and Xiao Wu "go unmatched" in the crowd, watched fists land solidly and heard the waves of shouts rising and falling. The battle-loving genes in its body were lit up again.
It rubbed its head against Qian Ren Shuang's arm, eyes sparkling, its whole face practically spelling out the words "I want to play too."
"We're Soul Kings. If you joined the fight, that would be a total waste of your talent." At this point, Qian Ren Shuang paused. "Besides, beating them in a stomp is just a waste of time."
This was essentially him acknowledging Guilmon's strength in a roundabout way.
"Exactly!" Oscar cheerfully pulled Guilmon onto his lap, casually picked up the dishes on the table, and pushed them in front of Guilmon. "Why use a butcher's cleaver to kill a chicken? Guilmon, just sit here with us and watch the show."
Guilmon looked at the food on the table, then at the battlefield where the fight was in full swing. After hesitating for a fraction of a second, it ultimately chose to fill its stomach first.
"Oscar!" Ning Rongrong puffed out her cheeks in anger, her almond eyes wide and round. "I wanted to feed Guilmon! How can you steal that from me?"
Before Oscar could reply, Qian Ren Shuang was already roaring in dissatisfaction. "Ning Rongrong! Feed me! Can't you see I'm in a state where both my hands can't move too?"
He raised his two plastered arms hanging from his neck and shook them, his eyes resentful like an abandoned baby forgotten in a corner.
Ning Rongrong glanced at him and refused crisply. "No. That would make it too easy for people to misunderstand that our relationship is very close."
Qian Ren Shuang: "..."
"Qian Ren Shuang, you're not as popular as me!" Guilmon's mouth was stuffed full of food as it mumbled out another stab.
Qian Ren Shuang looked up to the heavens and sighed. "You value dragons over people!"
Ning Rongrong could not hold it in after his shout and burst out laughing. She shook her head helplessly, turned, picked up her chopsticks, and held a bite of food to Qian Ren Shuang's mouth. "Fine, fine, stop shouting. I'll feed you, all right?"
Having a pretty girl personally feed him—and this girl was even the young lady of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. Normally, she was the one others served; when had she ever served anyone else?
This scene instantly made Dai Mubai and Ma Hongjun's eyes turn red with envy.
The two of them were usually seasoned veterans who drifted among flowers, priding themselves on being experienced and skilled in matters between men and women.
But now, they simply could not understand it—how had Qian Ren Shuang, someone who usually looked like a "silent gourd," taken the first step in this area?
And taken it so steadily, so accurately, and in such an envy-inducing way?
Crack!
The chopsticks in Dai Mubai's hand snapped.
Crack!
The chopsticks in Ma Hongjun's hand snapped too.
The two looked at each other and saw the exact same emotion in each other's eyes.
In the blink of an eye, Dai Mubai suddenly stood up, his face perfectly serious as he found an extremely reasonable excuse. "Xiao Wu, come back. With us boys here, why would we need you girls to act?"
He made it sound utterly righteous, as if he really had stepped forward purely out of gentlemanly grace.
In his heart, Ma Hongjun silently gave Dai Mubai a thumbs-up. Boss Dai really lived up to being the boss. That reaction was seriously fast!
Just then, the teacher from Pale Radiance Academy roared in shock and fury, "Idiots! Use your martial souls!"
That shout snapped the five Pale Radiance Academy students awake. They quickly reacted, no longer tangling with Tang San and Xiao Wu at close range. Each of them retreated two steps and activated their martial souls.
A spear, a three-pronged fork, a deer, a goat, and a horse—five martial souls lit up in succession, and two soul rings, one white and one yellow, appeared around each of them. Though their grades were not particularly high, with the five of them standing together, they did have a bit of presence.
