Background / History

Yu Xiaogang is a direct-line descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and the grandson of its current clan head, Yu Yuanzhen. His external martial soul, Luo Sanpao, became a defining part of both his identity and his research into martial souls. 4 29

In his younger years, he formed the Golden Iron Triangle with Flender and Liu Erlong: Flender was the Flying Corner, Yu Xiaogang the Wisdom Corner, and Liu Erlong the Slaughter Corner. Both men loved Liu Erlong, but she chose Yu Xiaogang. Their relationship ended after they discovered they were cousins, after which Yu Xiaogang fled rather than confront the situation. 36

Yu Xiaogang was personally granted the title “Grandmaster” by the Pope of Spirit Hall for his martial-soul theory, particularly the Ten Core Spirit Competencies. Bibi Dong regarded him as her lost love, and her attachment to him affected how she viewed Qian Ren Shuang. 21 22

After arriving at Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang sought to study Qian Ren Shuang and Guilmon as a research subject. Yu Xiaogang is highly proud of his scholarly reputation and frequently presents himself through his titles, theory, and connection to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Despite his authoritative manner, he is fearful in direct danger. He hides behind Flender during the battle between Liu Erlong and WarGrowlmon, fears confronting Liu Erlong because of their past, and submits to Qian Ren Shuang's demands when physically overpowered. 30 36 40

Yu Xiaogang first approaches Qian Ren Shuang intending to research Guilmon and improve his Ten Core Spirit Competencies. His self-important introduction instead earns him a kick from the irritated Qian Ren Shuang. 21

Flender subsequently introduces him as Shrek Academy's theory expert. Yu Xiaogang arranges a seven-against-one practical exercise against the injured Qian Ren Shuang and Guilmon. 22

Conflict with Qian Ren Shuang

After Ning Rongrong repeats Qian Ren Shuang's criticism of running, Yu Xiaogang lectures her until she cries. He later tries to use his direct-line clan status to make Qian Ren Shuang accept him as a teacher and assist his research. 29

Qian Ren Shuang attacks him instead, then forces him to apologize to Ning Rongrong. Tang Hao secretly intervenes to ensure Yu Xiaogang survives and remains useful to Tang San. 30 31
