Yukinoshita's Correction Method
"That's how it is at two years old~" The shop assistant's eyes darted between the two of them. "To be honest, when you first came here four years ago, I felt that you two would make it work, but the child is already two years old so quickly... that really surprised me."
Dong Yunshan recalled the first time she came here with Yukino Yukinoshita.
At the time, it was to find the calico cat that Yui Yuigahama had taken care of when she was a child.
"Don't even mention it," Dong Yunshan said with a bright smile. "I never dared to imagine such a happy life back then."
Yukino Yukinoshita secretly pinched him.
"Still so sweet and cozy, isn't it?" The shop assistant couldn't help but smile with satisfaction. "Is it the same as usual today?"
"No," Yukino Yukinoshita gently shook her head, "We came here today because we want to adopt a kitten."
The cats at this cafe are all adopted from health centers, and the cafe also encourages customers to adopt cats so that the cafe can help more stray cats.
"We've prepared a cat house," Dong Yunshan said, showing photos on her phone. "After we get home, we'll let the kitten live alone in the cat house for a while before gradually introducing it to the child."
"Looks like you've all made up your minds without me having to remind you." The shop assistant glanced at the cat house's decor and couldn't help but admire it. "So thoughtful! Perfect timing, there were three mother cats with kittens before. I was originally going to contact some regular customers to see if any of them wanted to adopt them—come with me."
Led by the shop assistant, Dong Yunshan and Yukino Yukinoshita entered the special room where the mother cat and kittens lived.
This room is smaller than the others, but the lack of a sofa and coffee table for guests makes it feel more spacious.
The floor was covered with soft mats and a low cat tree. An orange tabby cat was lying on its side feeding four kittens. Hearing the noise, it immediately raised its amber eyes and stared at them warily, its tail gently patting the ground.
"This kitten is quite protective of its young, and it's also rather lively," the shop assistant explained simply. "It's still nursing, so if you want to adopt it, you'll need to wait another month... two months would be a safer time."
Yukino Yukinoshita nodded, then raised her phone, checked that the flash was off, and quickly snapped several photos, "Are there any we can adopt now?"
"Take a look over here," the shop assistant introduced the second group. "This one gave birth to six, and they're having a real problem right now."
Yukino Yukinoshita turned her head and saw a tabby cat running in circles, with six smaller tabby cats chasing closely behind.
The tabby cat jumped onto the cat tree, and the kittens gathered around it, meowing.
Yukino Yukinoshita silently raised her phone and quickly took a picture.
"Let's take a look at all three groups," Dong Yunshan suggested, "And then make a decision."
The third group consisted of black and white long-haired cats. The mother cat was lying down, teasing her three kittens with her tail. When she saw someone coming, she slowly stood up, stretched, and walked over to tap on the glass door.
"It's not time to eat yet," the clerk replied softly. "Could you wait a little longer?"
The mother cat patted the door again, meowed twice, and when she realized the clerk wasn't going to bring any snacks, she went back to lying down.
Three kittens ran over, two of them ran back, and the remaining one imitated them and patted the glass door.
Yukino Yukinoshita took two photos with her phone, then suddenly stopped, moved the phone aside, and stared at the kitten knocking on the door.
All three kittens are black and white, but this one has a particularly neat coat pattern. It's mostly black, with a pure white chest and four little paws, as if it's wearing a white bib and socks. Its mouth and chin are also white, its pink little nose is especially cute, and its big blue eyes are full of curiosity.
"Many people think black and white cats are a bit crazy, but these long-haired lion cats are very well-behaved," the shop assistant explained. "Look at the mother cat; she has a lion-like ruff around her neck. The kittens will grow up to look like that too."
"Although they're a bit different..." Dong Yunshan noticed Yukino Yukinoshita's liking, "But it seems to have a panda-like feel to it?"
Yukino Yukinoshita's eyes sparkled. "Mmm~"
The shop assistant opened the door and picked up the kitten. "Look, its limbs are outstretched, and its tail hangs down naturally. It has a very good temperament."
Yukino Yukinoshita reached out and took it, feeling the warm bundle in her palm. Her gaze softened even more. "How about we choose this one?"
"It seems we're on the same page." Dong Yunshan nodded. "Then it's settled."
The shop assistant helped with the adoption procedures and explained the precautions.
The three-month-old kitten has been weaned and can eat cat food and use the litter box on its own, but it still needs some time to adapt to its new environment.
"These are her usual mat, toys, and bowl. Taking them home will help her adjust more quickly." The shop assistant packed the items into a cardboard box and then put the kitten into a portable airline crate. "Have a good time together!"
Leaving the cafe with Dong Yunshan, Yukino Yukinoshita was still somewhat dazed as she sat in the car, repeatedly checking that there was a cat in the carrier, and murmured softly, "I'm really starting to have a cat..."
Dong Yunshan started the car. "Let's think of a name for it!"
Chapter 951 Quitting Diapers
Yukino Yukinoshita's eyes flickered slightly. "Let's call her... Mianmian."
Dong Yunshan skillfully drove the car into the driveway. "You'd already thought of this?"
"Mmm~" Yukino Yukinoshita's eyes softened, "Mianmian, fluffy clouds, Mianmian, fluffy snow, and Mianmian kittens~"
"It sounds nice, it's easy to pronounce, and it has a good meaning." Dong Yunshan called out, "Mianmian?"
"Focus on driving." Yukino Yukinoshita pinched his arm.
Back home, after parking the car, Yukino Yukinoshita hesitated for a moment. "Dad?"
"What's wrong?" Dong Yunshan stopped opening the car door. "Are you worried that Lingling and Mianmian won't get along?"
"Hmm." Yukino Yukinoshita pursed her cherry lips slightly. "Lingling is only two years old, a curious and sensitive age. She doesn't yet know how to control her strength or how to properly express her affection. Mianmian is only three months old and unfamiliar with the new environment. Her instinctive reaction might frighten or even hurt Lingling..."
"Didn't we prepare this beforehand?" Dong Yunshan reminded her, "Mianmian has her own room. Once Mianmian is settled, we can try to get along with Lingling."
Yukino Yukinoshita was still worried. "But if Lingling sees Mianmian and gets curious, she might cry if she can't touch it..."
Dong Yunshan removed her hand from the car door handle, adjusted her posture, and faced Yukino Yukinoshita: "Yukinoshita the Service Club, I'm having some trouble and hope to get your help."
"Huh?" Yukino Yukinoshita was taken aback. "Why are you suddenly bringing this up..."
"It's like this." Dong Yunshan coughed twice. "I've always loved cats, so I got a three-month-old kitten. But my child is only two years old. Although I've prepared a cat house, I'm still worried that my baby, who is in Sensitive Period for Order, will cry because he can't have close contact with the kitten. What should I do?"
A nostalgic look appeared on Yukino Yukinoshita's face. Her bent knuckles rested on her chin, and she pondered with her eyes slightly lowered, "Kittens and children don't inherently harbor any ill will towards each other; they just haven't yet mastered the correct way to interact. As cat owners and parents, we need to teach kittens and children the appropriate skills. For cats, this is necessary socialization training; for children, it's an essential part of their growth."
Dong Yunshan sighed softly, "But I really don't want to see the child cry; it breaks my heart when she cries."
"Children in their Sensitive Period for Order need understanding and acceptance. Respecting their sense of order can easily help them develop various good habits." Yukino Yukinoshita paused. "Conversely, if you give in to their demands without any principles just because they cry, it will also help them develop many bad habits. Overindulging their need for order and disrespecting their sense of order are essentially both ways of shirking parental responsibility."
"You're right, I'll try my best." Dong Yunshan took Yukino Yukinoshita's hand. "But I feel like one person isn't enough. Would you be willing to help me?"
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. This is the Service Club's motto." Yukino Yukinoshita responded with a gentle yet firm smile. "I have seen your determination, and I will help you achieve the result you desire."
Dong Yunshan gently kissed her forehead. "Then let's go home~"
Yukino Yukinoshita: "Hmm~"
As soon as I got out of the car and opened the door, I heard Dong Yunling's footsteps.
"Daddy~ Mommy~" Dong Yunling hugged Dong Yunshan's leg, raising her little face with a cute smile.
"Lingling, be good~" Dong Yunshan reminded, "Let Daddy put the things down first."
"No~" Lingling clung to his leg, refusing to let go. Her eyes flickered and she saw the airline case that Yukino Yukinoshita was carrying.
Because of her height, Xiao Lingling could see a small, furry bundle inside the flight case through the metal mesh door.
Lingling was originally holding Dong Yunshan, became curious and squatted down to stare inside, cautiously reaching out to poke her hand inside.
Yukino Yukinoshita lifted the travel case a little higher. "Lingling, we're having a new friend coming to our house. Let's prepare a welcoming ceremony."
"A ceremony...?" Dong Yunling tilted her head in confusion.
"Just like when Mom and Dad come home, Lingling welcomes us." Dong Yunshan put down her things, picked up her daughter, and said, "When a new friend comes to our home, we should also welcome them."
Dong Yunling clung to Dong Yunshan's shoulder and looked back. "Auntie?"
"It's not the aunties, the aunties are in class." Yukino Yukinoshita said as Dong Yunshan, carrying her daughter and a suitcase, walked inside. "It's a... little kid."
When Dong Yunling ran out, Xue's mother followed behind to watch over her. Noticing the tacit cooperation between the two, she nodded gently.
Yukino Yukinoshita greeted her mother and placed the carrier in the cat house that Dong Yunshan had converted.
One of the rooms in the Japanese-style room had its original paper sliding door replaced with a glass door, and a cat bed and cat tree were placed inside.
Yukino Yukinoshita placed Mianmian little mat in the cat bed, arranged the toys and small bowls, put out food and water, opened the carrier, walked out of the cat house, and closed and locked the glass door.
Dong Yunling, nestled in her father's arms, looked on with curiosity. When she saw a fluffy little bundle crawling out of the carrier, her eyes widened immediately, and she exclaimed, "Kitty!"
Upon hearing the sound, Mianmian trembled, turned around, and crawled back inside.
"Oh right, it's a cat," Dong Yunshan added with a smile. "Its name is Mianmian."
"Meow... Meow-Mian?" Dong Yunling clumsily imitated her father's pronunciation, "Meow- Mianmian -Mian~ Let's play..."
"We're playing together," Yukino Yukinoshita gently corrected, "But Mianmian is still very nervous. The sound you just made will scare it. Does Lingling want someone to disturb her when she's scared?"
"No~" Dong Yunling answered immediately, then thought for a moment and covered her mouth with her small hand.
As the environment quieted down, Mianmian gradually relaxed and tentatively stepped out of the carrier again.
Dong Yunling pressed her face against the glass door, staring intently at the kitten inside.
Mianmian sniffed the surrounding scents and quickly found the cat food left by Yukino Yukinoshita. She wagged her little tail and ran over to it, happily eating it.
"Kitty..." Lingling pounded on the glass door, "Come out~"
Mianmian tugged at her ear and continued eating.
"Not yet~" Yukino Yukinoshita grabbed her daughter's little hand. "Mianmian needs to adjust inside for a while before she can happily play with Lingling. Do you want Mianmian to play with you unhappily?"
"No~" Lingling withdrew her little hand, "I want milk..."
"You're hungry from watching this," Dong Yunshan chuckled. "Daddy will go heat up some milk for you."
Yukino Yukinoshita patted her daughter's head. "Mommy, hello~"
Lingling tilted her head. "Where's Meow Meow?"
"Mianmian can eat by herself," Yukino Yukinoshita replied with a smile. "Look, Mianmian has finished eating."
The kitten, having eaten its fill, followed the scent to the small cushion in the cat bed. It clumsily climbed in and stepped on it. The dim cat bed made it feel safe, and it curled up into a ball inside.
Lingling blinked, seemingly lost in thought.
After Dong Yunshan warmed the milk, Yukino Yukinoshita picked up Lingling to feed her, but Lingling grabbed the bottle herself. "No~"
Yukino Yukinoshita paused for a moment, then realized what she meant. "Does Lingling want to eat it by herself?"
"Lingling... Big Brother~" Dong Yunling held up the baby bottle and gestured, "Okay~"
Dong Yunshan guessed, "Because Lingling is bigger than Mianmian, Mianmian can eat by herself, and so can Lingling?"
"Mmm~" Lingling nodded vigorously, picked up the bottle, and began to drink.
Dong Yunshan and Yukino Yukinoshita exchanged a glance and saw the surprise in each other's eyes.
There was also an unexpected bonus~
Dong Yunling is still young and her attention span isn't very long.
Occasionally, I'd remember to peek through the glass door and see that Mianmian was still curled up in her cat bed, then she'd go off to play by herself.
For the first two days, Yukino Yukinoshita only went in to give the cat water and food, and then left the cat house to help Mianmian feel safe in the new environment.
On the third day, after Dong Yunling fell asleep, Yukino Yukinoshita and Dong Yunshan started sitting in the cat house reading books, at most taking photos with their phones without actively trying to catch the cat.
Gradually, Mianmian realized that Yukino Yukinoshita the one who controlled food, and began to take the initiative to contact her.
Dong Yunshan took out her phone and filmed the moment when Mianmian's little paws pressed against Yukino Yukinoshita's palm.
With a good start, the subsequent training became much easier.
Yukino Yukinoshita gently waved the cat toy in her hand, Mianmian happily pounced on it. But if Mianmian bit or scratched someone, she would immediately stop the game, leave the cat house, and let it stay by itself.
When it gets tired of playing, pick it up and pet it to desensitize it. Touch its paws, ears, and tail, and reward it for each touch.
Grooming training is also of utmost importance for long-haired cats. Start by brushing their backs, then gradually extend to their bellies and ears, offering treats as you brush to build trust.
Occasionally play sounds of hair dryers and vacuum cleaners to help Mianmian gradually adapt and prevent stress.
After a considerable period of effort, Mianmian's sleeping posture in the cat bed became increasingly arrogant, with the whole cat seemingly sprawled out, belly up, fast asleep.
Lingling finally got to see the day she had been waiting for.
"Panda..." Dong Yunling sat in her father's lap, looking at the kitten in her mother's arms, "It's the same..."
"The color is the same as the panda plush toy, but it's a little different." Dong Yunshan held her daughter's wrist. "Let's touch it."
Dong Yunling's little hands blossomed, and with her father's help, she slowly approached Mianmian.
The moment her little hand touched Mianmian, her fingers recoiled slightly.
Dong Yunshan cooperated and stopped, giving Lingling time to prepare.
Lingling's little hand twitched, then gently poked Mianmian's body, her eyes instantly lighting up. "It's warm!"
