Silvan had always known that Gringotts had dragons, but this was the first time he had seen one of the massive creatures with his own eyes.
It was nearly forty feet long, its enormous body almost filling the entire underground passage.
As they approached the dragon, the goblin calmly took out a metal Clanker and shook it hard, producing a series of clanging sounds.
The dragon immediately cowered into a ball at the sound, and the cart passed smoothly through the passage where it stood.
"A Clanker. It's afraid of this," the goblin said smugly, as though showing off. "The moment it hears the sound, it shrinks back and doesn't dare move forward."
"It isn't afraid of the metal or the sound, but of its memories," Dumbledore said.
"It's all the same, isn't it?" The goblin did not care in the slightest as it guided the cart farther down.
After passing the dragon, they had reached the deepest part of Gringotts' vaults.
It was no exaggeration to say that every vault here, once opened, contained countless piles of gold, along with priceless jewels and magical items of every kind.
At last, the cart stopped beside a solitary stone platform.
"This way, Mr. Dumbledore." Holding a gas lamp, the goblin hopped out of the cart and walked to the vault.
It inserted a golden key into the lock, then pressed its palm against it.
In the blink of an eye, the door vanished, revealing an opening.
Even now, Silvan did not understand what Dumbledore was doing. Weren't they supposed to be looking for the Cup? Why were they stopping by his own vault on the way?
To withdraw money?
Dumbledore should not be short of Galleons.
Silvan jumped down from the cart and saw gold coins piled from floor to ceiling
