The sudden appearance of a warship shattered the tranquility of planet Ozrax.
In a world where Chaos and xenos were intertwined.
A warship from a successor Chapter of the Blood Raven Chapter had accidentally deviated from its original route in the Warp and crashed toward planet Ozrax.
The Blood Raven Chapter was one of the Chapters split off from the many Space Marine Chapters. They were connected by warships and took pride in their flagship, the All-Knowing Mystery. By at least the 37th millennium, the Blood Raven Chapter had served the Imperium for several hundred years.
Over the past several millennia, they had continuously searched other worlds for knowledge and shared it with the Imperium, greatly broadening the horizons of the Adeptus Mechanicus and advancing the Imperium's development.
At the same time, their battles against all manner of xenos had made them far more composed when dealing with them.
"Talon, what planet did we crash onto?"
"Captain Cyrus, the database lists it as unknown. The place where we crashed is beyond our star sector. We need to establish contact with the local Librarius before we can determine where we landed."
"Can we contact the flagship?"
"I'm calming the machine spirit and attempting the first transmission."
"Talon, stay here. Recon squad, come with me. Such a huge disturbance may have drawn the enemy's attention."
Cyrus frowned. The white marking on the red helmet he held displayed his status as a veteran, and when he wore the red helmet, the four silver studs atop it were rewards for his loyalty.
One silver stud represented fifty years of service. The four atop his head meant that he had served the Imperium of Man for two hundred years.
The iron halo set into the jetpack of his armor was an even greater reward from the Emperor for his supreme honor.
Cyrus walked out of the crashed warship. Around him stood unfamiliar xenos constructs, mixed with marks and symbols left behind by Chaos corruption.
"Rotten, filthy Chaos."
Having served for two hundred years, Cyrus knew well the terror of the forces of Chaos. Every confrontation with Chaos was a test of their loyalty to the Emperor.
Some mysterious force from the Warp lingered in the surrounding area.
The purity seal on Cyrus's shoulder began to burn.
When a purity seal began to burn, it meant the power of Chaos nearby had started to spread.
"Prepare. Fight!"
At Vulkan Castle, a great many people had gathered because of the disturbance.
The religious faithful wore black veils and carried dim candle lanterns.
To one side stood the Astra Militarum, clutching their guns and guarding against something.
In the oppressive atmosphere came the crackling hiss of old electronic equipment.
The commotion caused by the warship's crash had clearly startled the xenos that had remained quiet. Furious shrieks and roars from the xenos rang out beyond the walls.
At the same time, mysterious whispers began to drift through the void.
The strange, intensely stimulating sounds made the mortals clutch their heads in agony.
"Chaos is here! Get the children to run!"
However, Chaos came even faster than they had imagined.
Daemons whispered deeply into their ears, while corrupted Warp power tortured their flesh.
Under the dual torment of mind and body, they saw those familiar Chaos Space Marines.
The angels once sent down by the Emperor were now covered in sinister symbols. Filthy marks overlaid their original Chapter insignias, while the sacred parchment bearing purity seals had been stamped with blasphemous marks.
A Chaos warband!
A group of Astartes who had turned to Chaos out of fear, cowardice, betrayal, and blasphemy, becoming Chaos's lackeys.
Before the children could escape, two Chaos warriors from the warband had already set their sights on them.
Corroded by Warp psychic power, everyone else was powerless to resist. They all knelt on the ground, clutching their heads.
The two members of the Chaos warband walked toward the gathered faithful. The religious people tortured by psychic power lay on the ground, holding their swollen heads as they looked upon this twisted, mad world. It was as though the entire world had become some creation wantonly kneaded and warped out of shape before their eyes.
The appearance of a psyker amid Chaos could inflict twisted, agonizing torment even upon Astartes in the physical world, let alone them, who were all mere mortals.
Like picking ripe fruit, the two Chaos warband members selected suitable breeding candidates from the crowd.
"We found them."
"We can pick four from these people. That's enough."
Just like before, Chaos appeared, they were tortured, and then they watched helplessly as several boys and girls were taken away.
Every time these Chaos warbands appeared, they had no means of fighting back.
Only after the enemy took the people away and the psychic power vanished could they slowly recover.
But this time.
The Astra Militarum veteran who had survived for fifty years forcibly endured the interference of Warp psychic power. Today, after accumulating decades of rage, he finally raised his gun.
He aimed at one of the Chaos warriors.
The warriors of the Imperium had arrived. The Emperor's angels were about to descend.
And today, he could finally shout that battle cry once more.
"For the Emperor!!!"
Clang!
A bullet of human loyalty flew forth, shooting toward the enemy.
He knew his bullet could not possibly leave even a mark on the other side's power armor.
But he believed that perhaps he would not live to see the future, yet he would become the Emperor's bullet, fired at humanity's enemies.
"The Emperor's angels will avenge me!"
The Chaos warrior slightly turned his head, raised his bolter, and fired at the human soldier's head.
With one shot.
The veteran's head exploded.
Foolish.
The False Emperor's dogs really were everywhere.
A bolter round could tear through even the thick chitinous shell of a Tyranid.
Yet the guns in mortal hands could not harm him in the slightest.
Wouldn't it have been better to hide and cling to life?
Idiot.
"Don't waste time!"
"Move on to the next world. The gene-seed of the Fists of the False Emperor needs more Chaos eggs."
After the other Chaos warrior spoke, this Chaos warrior merely glanced at the bullet that had fallen to the ground and prepared to leave.
Then, a beam of white light descended from the sky.
It fell from above the church.
It was clearly light, yet it felt like something from the Warp pouring down upon them, carrying immense weight.
Whoosh!
A figure fell from above the church.
It smashed through the church ceiling, shattered the gloom that had long shrouded the church, and crashed heavily onto the church floor. Its massive body split the ground with several exaggerated cracks.
"The Emperor's angel has truly descended."
"The Emperor."
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
It was not just one.
Behind that figure, beams of light descended one after another. They seemed to function as teleportation, transporting figures from within their radiance.
With their power armor and Chaos constructs, the two Chaos warriors stood nearly two and a half meters tall, like gods.
Yet the figure before them was actually even taller.
A Space Marine? Or a Primaris Space Marine?
But they had never seen armor like the one Cisrain wore. Which Chapter wore silver-and-gold power armor? And he even had a cloak behind him, silver outside and red within, trimmed in gold.
A Chapter Master from some Chapter?
But since he was not Chaos, there was only one outcome.
Kill him.
Mount his head upon themselves and make it their trophy.

One member of the Chaos warband raised his bolter and fired a round toward Cisrain.
The round flew from the muzzle.
It sped accurately toward Cisrain's head.
But Cisrain did not dodge. Instead, he reached out to catch the bolter round.
Catching a bullet with his hand?
Did he think he was a Warmaster?
