The church on Vulcan.
It became the center of the conflict.
Outside the church, a purple beacon was continuously summoning Chaos minions for the forces of Chaos.
"Brown, the research ship's shells are off-target. Aim for that purple pillar of light."
"Governor, that's a research vessel, not an orbital cannon deployed in planetary orbit. It's a miracle we haven't been hit by our own fire yet." Brown grumbled to himself, but he still cursed at the operators of the research ship hovering above, "Do you even know how to fire? Can't you aim better than that?"
"."
Without coordinates, without an accurate location, just a command to aim at a pillar of light—why don't you try dropping a few torpedoes from twenty thousand meters up in space yourself?
Complaining was one thing, but the job still had to be done. If the Governor returned and revoked their residency in the Ideal City, the loss would outweigh any gain.
The operators could only pressure the orbital calculators and the shell loaders.
"You lot, aim properly! Is it really that hard to hit that purple beam?"
"."
The pace of development was still too slow.
Everything was just getting started.
His own technological progress was already sluggish, and now these Chaos forces had to come and stir up trouble.
Once his technology matured, he would drag them out one by one and hook them all into the power grid.
The leftovers would be stuffed into the mega-structure Synapse Condenser.
"My Emperor, he's not even human! Did you see that? Such a massive mechanical demon, torn apart by his bare hands!"
"The Emperor protects! It must be that the Emperor heard our prayers and sent the most powerful angel from His side to vent the Emperor's wrath upon the traitors."
"Is this what it feels like to fight alongside an angel of the Emperor? I feel so powerful! We've even managed to hold back the Chaos forces."
"Don't get cocky. The enemy isn't dead yet, and our mission isn't complete."
The front line had been pushed forward almost entirely by Cisrain alone.
The ground was littered with the bodies of Chaos minions, but a steady stream of the Chaos army continued to pour in from the rear. Cisrain stood atop a hill of corpses, crushing one Chaos servant after another—corrupted mortals, Adeptus Mechanicus, mutants, xenos, and Chaos Space Marines.
Among the Chaos army, there even began to appear the rotting, foul-smelling corpses of Chaos mortals.
Cisrain kicked away a corrupted soldier of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
Standing on the hill of corpses, the sun behind him cast a black silhouette onto the ground.
"You may fire!"
"Understood! Governor." The crew on the research ship replied, "Preparing to deliver the package."
"Initiating delivery countdown."
The radar originally used to scan the planet's surface was now used to lock onto the purple Chaos beacon, and the torpedoes meant for clearing meteorites were repurposed as air-dropped ordnance, launched toward the beacon.
In the silent void of space, the reaper's scythe descended.
"Brown, shields to full power! Scientists, find cover!"
"Find cover immediately! An airstrike is coming!"
Brown Hoken directed the scientists. They were the wealth of Gamma Planet's rise. Gamma Planet didn't lack population, but it lacked scientists. At least until they obtained the Synapse Condenser mentioned by Governor Cisrain, these scientists were the Empire's most precious asset.
Of course, the Governor was even more so.
"Governor, cover?" Brown waved from the rear.
Cisrain heard him and merely tilted his head slightly behind him, "Just hide behind me."
"No, I mean—"
"Airstrike!"
"Airstrike!"
"Find the nearest cover yourselves!"
Seeing Brown shouting for cover, the remaining Astra Militarum soldiers also took up the cry to find the nearest shelter.
But Cisrain, standing on the mountain of corpses, needed no cover.
As a genetic ascendant, he was the strongest cover himself.
Besides, it was just a nuclear warhead.
Cisrain shook the blood off his hands.
That felt good.
The recent fatigue had been swept away.
Indeed, whether it was Chaos or xenos, these things just needed a chance to be dragged out and beaten up.
If he spent every day dealing with administrative affairs, he would be bored to death.
Long periods of peace—certainly not a good term.
"Does that lord not need cover?"
"I suppose... he doesn't?"
Above the Chaos beacon.
A space torpedo tipped with a nuclear warhead fell from the sky.
It followed the purple beam and dropped into the canyon housing the Chaos beacon.
The bell of death tolled immediately.
BOOM!
The nuclear torpedo, which looked unimpressive in the vacuum of space, caused a resonance between the air and the earth upon impact.
A scout squad of Blood Ravens was on their way to the church.
"I felt a tremor." Cyrus looked toward the direction of the Chaos beacon.
The valley where the purple beam stood lit up with a light as bright as day.
It instantly swallowed the black valley, along with the surrounding Chaos creatures about to swarm in.
"Here it comes again!"
"Watch out for the bombardment! Find cover!"
HUM!
The violent vibration brought fear.
The scorching light and heat brought the power to incinerate everything.
The ball of light swallowed everything in an instant, not even sparing the Chaos beacon.
The Chaos forces near the center were carbonized into ash by the intense heat.
BOOM!
A powerful shockwave swept across dozens of kilometers in an instant.
Almost all trees and buildings were uprooted.
"Cover!"
HUM!
The energy fluctuation hammered against their eardrums; even the sounds they shouted were suppressed by this force.
People inside the church were blown away by the sliver of energy leaking through the gaps.
Outside, however, Cisrain stood on the high pile of corpses, activating his force field shield to its maximum power, firmly blocking the impact in front of him.
Under the scorching white light of the explosion.
Cisrain became the only silhouette amidst the dazzling radiance.
Some people had to struggle to open their eyes just to see the light emanating from him.
"That man... he is simply a living saint."
They had never seen a living saint, nor had they seen a Champion of the Emperor.
But Cisrain, he must be the kind of legend found within the Astra Militarum.
"The Chaos beacon has collapsed."
[Destroyed Chaos Beacon *1]
[Triggered Hidden Event: Currently, nineteen beacons have been activated around Gamma Planet in the Far East Frontier. You have destroyed only one (Chaos beacons will summon more Chaos cultists; if not completely destroyed within three years, you will face a Chaos crisis). Upon completing the mission, you will be rewarded with the Colossus Project: Quantum Catapult]
[Current unfinished events:]
[Daily Event: Recover Research Points, Progress: 30%]
[Emergency Event: Exterminate Chaos Warband, Progress: 3%]
[Hidden Event: Chaos Beacon, Progress: 5%]
"."
Cisrain raised an eyebrow upon seeing the hidden event.
The fire burning before him was truly dazzling; even the sky had changed color.
"Confirmed, I have indeed been targeted."
A cogitator on a desk can help intelligent beings do many things: Tech-Priests use it to store data, T'au use it to look up information, Drukhari use it to watch snuff films, and Dwarves can't reach it.
