Background / History

Yang Chen began fighting the Lion King after reaching the Dou Spirit realm. Although Yang Chen was initially at a disadvantage, he repeatedly returned to spar, and the Lion King gradually accepted him as a familiar opponent. Yang Chen also instructed the Lion King's cub, which the Lion King considered more effective guidance than its own. 1

After Yang Chen advanced to Dou King, he requested a wisp of Purple Crystal Flame as a gift for his nephew. In exchange, he offered the foundation of the Sun-Devouring Divine Art, a fire-attributed cultivation art capable of tempering the Lion King's bloodline and greatly benefiting its cub. Overwhelmed by its quality, the Lion King knelt, addressed Yang Chen as “Master,” and willingly separated an unusually gentle wisp of beast flame. 1

The Lion King later remained under Yang Chen's command, accompanying him to Wutan City and the Snake-People Royal City. It also acted as a visible part of Yang Chen's force alongside Hai Bodong, Lin Sen, and Lei Na. 37 42 49

Yang Chen eventually sent the Lion King back to the Magic Beast Mountain Range with instructions to leak news of the Companion Amethyst Source to Xiao Yan and allow Xiao Yan's courage to be tested. During a later confrontation with Medusa Queen, Xiao Yan entered the Lion King's lair and stole part of the Companion Amethyst Source. The Lion King threatened Xiao Yan, but withdrew its hostility after Fa Ma revealed that Xiao Yan was Yang Chen's nephew. 49 105 107 109

Appearance

The Lion King is an enormous purple male lion with a massive, blood-filled maw and intimidating beast eyes. He can reduce his body to a roughly ten-foot-long lion form when accompanying Yang Chen. 30 37

However, he is highly pragmatic when confronted with a superior opportunity: after examining the Sun-Devouring Divine Art, he immediately submitted to Yang Chen in exchange for it. 1

He respects overwhelming strength. He treats Yang Chen as his master, acknowledges Medusa Queen's transformed state with caution, and ultimately relents against Xiao Yan once Yang Chen's connection is made clear. 30 109

The Lion King is also fiercely possessive of the Companion Amethyst Source, refusing to trade it easily and confronting both Medusa Queen and Xiao Yan over it. 101 105 107
