Light flickered in the universe.
Like every ray of light in the universe, this one had traveled a long way before reaching its destination.
The light that had set out with him from the Solar System seemed to bid him farewell. Those old companions did not stop for any reason, but continued flying into the distant reaches.
Traveling at light speed had become routine for the Great Sun Sword Lord.
Yet it remained the limit, one he had never managed to break. It was the limit of special relativity, a shackle.
"By Kardashev's theory, the Immortal Sect is already a level two civilization if it can travel at light speed, isn't it?"
Jiang Ding pondered in silence.
For now, though, only he could travel at light speed. Even the Central Group Army Fleet had not reached it: its mass was too great, the necessary technology too immature, and the capability had yet to become widespread.
He was not satisfied.
Beyond light speed lay the theory of wormholes, natural passages through spacetime. The Immortal Sect possessed one such passage.
Long before Jiang Ding was born, the Immortal Sect had been fortunate enough to find one. They had put it to use as their last route of escape, and it could not be opened without authorization.
Another possibility was the warp drive, which would propel a fleet faster than light by compressing space ahead and expanding it behind. The method seemed to share something with the legendary immortal art of shrinking the earth to an inch. The Immortal Sect had already made some technological progress in this direction, but compressing and expanding space demanded more energy than it could currently provide.
Once the Immortal Sect advanced to a celestial-level power, there should be hope.
